You are playing a $100 buy-in MTT with 60 BB effective stacks. Blinds are 500/1,000 with a 1,000 BB ante. You are on the BTN holding A♠K♠. The CO opens to 2.5 BB, you 3-bet to 8 BB, and the CO 4-bets to 20 BB. The player has been relatively tight and has only shown strong hands in previous pots

if he has AA... fold. If he doesn't... shove.

I'm all in. If I'm going to fold a hand like AKs, I better find another hobby.

A three-bet with AK is initially a semi-bluff, because against an opponent's calling range, it often has no more than 50% equity. This hand is strong because, if it pairs on the flop, it's almost always the strongest hand and can be safely played for value. So, in principle, even a push with AK will be a semi-bluff, since sometimes we will take the pot right away, sometimes we will be going all-in with 50% equity.

If I have AK suited, I'm going all-in. You can never know for sure that your opponent has AA, and even if they do, you still have a chance to hit a flush or a straight.

I would say that it is possible to have AA, but with AKs I never get off, besides there are hands like KK AKs QQ JJ TT, which could be playing the same way and in those cases you still have a good chance of winning

AK looks beautiful until you see AA across the table. 😅
Against a known AA, I’m usually not trying to get too creative, especially early in a tournament.
Sometimes the best strategy is accepting that you’re probably in trouble and saving chips when possible.

I think I would like to have more information about the player and their betting ranges, to know if such a player would go all-in with AA or would play the hand as you described. I don't want to rely solely on whether he's conservative or aggressive. There are conservative players who will go all-in with AA, KK or QQ whenever the opportunity presents itself during a tournament, while others, despite being conservative, will try to get the most value. That's the factor that will determine if I go all-in or retire.

With all the dead money in the pot you get it in.

You have blockers and good equity in pot with lots of dead money.

I think folding AKs here is too nitty, but jamming 60bb vs a tight 4bet range feels pretty optimistic. Call and see a flop, especially with position. Sometimes you just gotta accept the headache lol.

This means the BB also puts in the full ante for the table, which is almost always the same size as the BB.

It's the way live games usually deal with an ante rather than needing all players to keep adding chips which would slow down the game a lot. Plus require players to also have a load of small chip denominations

Making that assumption that it is a live game, its a low ish stakes live game, which therefore is very very likely to be AA or KK, and occasionally AKs, QQ or JJ, so in reality you are not likely toi be ahead ever, flipping at best, and I'd be weighting the 4 bet much more heavily as AA KK, so I'd be folding

Online I would typically just jam it in and live with the outcome, unless its right on the bubble or something. But then I would typically not be 60BB deep, and if I was, I would probably not 3-bet in the first place. But I assume, this was a live tournament, and then this spot frankly suck, because what is a tight low stakes live player realistically 4-betting with here for 1/3 of his stack out of position?

Even if he has something as strong as AK or JJ-QQ, I think, he is more likely to just call our 3-bet and see a flop. So I think, we are against KK or AA here a lot, which mean, that 5-bet jamming will obviously be a complete disaster. I also dont like calling, because then there will be 40BB in the pot and only 40BB left behind in our stack, and mostly we will just be delaying a difficult decision to the flop.

On the other hand if we fold, we still have 52BB left, which is an absolutely workable stack especially in a soft live game. So I him and hum a bit, and then I fold without showing. I absolutely do not want the table to know, I folded a hand as strong as AKs. I want people to believe, I was 3-betting light with a hand like A5s or KJo and had to let it go facing a 4-bet.

Sometimes it's also a trap to make us go all-in, there will be someone with a pair
