Considering that sleep deprivation only affects you the day after you don't get enough sleep, this is the worst thing you can do.Another thing that helps me is going to bed earlier, starting two nights before. Your body has a natural circadian rhythm, and it knows when it's morning and time to get up, and when it's night and time to sleep. If you get it into the ideal tournament cycle a few nights before, it'll be much easier to go to bed on the night of the tournament.

Oh, absolutely. The poker tournament nap is an absolute classic tradition! Since those grueling multi-day events last longer than most marriages, players crashing out at the table happens all the time.

😂 I haven't actually fallen asleep, but I've definitely caught myself zoning out after a long grind. It's amazing you still had chips left when you woke up! Going from 1,800 chips back up to 48,000 is a great comeback, even if it didn't end with a final table. That's a pretty memorable session.

LOL. I was playing in a FT freeroll this morning after about 9 hours of poker. I started dozing off when I had about 8,000 chips, with about 1200 players left. Next thing I know it's an hour later and I'm still sitting at my computer. I look, and I've still got 1800 chips! So I start playing again. I went on a hot streak I have rarely seen, and in about 15 minutes I'm sitting in 22nd place with 48,000 chips. I wish this story had a better ending, but I pushed with K-10 suited and got knocked out by pocket sixes in 62nd place. So close, yet so far. Oh well.
I have not only fallen asleep while playing poker, but I found myself nodding off at red lights while driving...it was from sleep apnea, which I discovered after my triple bypass...I don't do it as much since I started using a CPAP several years ago, but I still manage to fall asleep during Saturday night "Date Night" movies (at home). Most of the time I nod off and miss a few hands, nothing earth shattering happened...I would be lower in chips...worst feeling in the world...waking up with pocket aces just as your time expired and your hand was folded.

Yes, it happened when I fell asleep a couple of times and woke up to find that I was already out of the tournament. One day I woke up at the final table with just one big blind. I got lucky a few times and doubled my stack and ended up in second place. That was pretty fun.

Honestly, yes! It happened to me during a satellite that started very early in the morning, around 4 a.m. I was basically already qualified, so I closed my eyes for a while and accidentally fell asleep.

The funny part is that when I woke up, I had already won my seat and was registered for the event I had been trying to qualify for. At the time I had no idea what was going on, but I definitely had to play it! 😄

I've never fallen asleep during a tournament, but I have had to leave because of other commitments. It always seems like whenever you have somewhere to be, that's when you make a deep run and don't have enough time to finish the tournament. I once had to leave during the final table of a freeroll, and by the time I got back, I had finished in second place.
