Doing pot in states where it is legal and then playing is obviously fine. Just don't smoke and then drive, and be polite about odors (not everyone enjoys the smell).

In other states; I'd always be very careful.
Well said. I'm lovin this thread. Alot of good questions and advice. Thanks Protential !!!

I usually don't play live tournament just because the structures are limited by tables, space etc. I think the online tournaments are a better value. I usually get high to lower my anxiety...is it frowned upon to be high at the table live tournaments? Both in terms of behavior and maybe Mary J odor? Would you get the police called on you? Get asked to leave by the floor staff? Are there WSOP rules against this?
This was a great question. I love playing online tournaments too, but I'm in the US, and my options are limited. The problem for live poker for me is that the closest place to play is 45 minutes to an hour away from where I live. It's inconvenient. Take care !!!

To tight?

I have found that the tighter i play the deeper i run my range is super tight can it be to tight or should i open a little wider late in a tourney

Hi Protential, I've asked you questions about general theory before. Today I would like to ask about a specific situation in a particular hand

Final table, 5 remaining players. I am BB with QQ (17bb) and the BTN (13.5bb) push Allin.
With the context, timing and recent history, I think his range is weak. Practically all pocket pairs and some combo with As high. Since of having a strong hand I would only have raised 2bb.
The SB paid, but I do not care too much.

I called from BB and BTN shows A8o and SB had AJo. The flop hits an Ace!
My question is this call is correct? Assuming a case where 70% of the time like this is favorite, is it profitable even with this percentage? or maybe should have let them eliminate each other and continue to steal blinds and playing postflop ( eventually call just with KK,AA.)

I would greatly appreciate the opinion of an expert
I also leave the history of the hand if you want to take a look
Thank you!

Learn good fundamental ranges from upswingpoker or Runitonce.

Ive played in some of the acr freerolls. None of the stars ones though.

Are we waiting for you at PokerStar or is it not part of your plans?

What opening ranges do you recommend to your students at different stages of the tournament?

That is based on stack depth and position more than stage of tourney.

A good easy guide: 13% in ep, 20%-25% in mp, 25% HJ, 35% co, 50% btn.

Sihift a bit the shorter you are, shift a bit the more icm pressure on you.

If im deep into a tournament with and an average stack lets just say im in 5th place out of 10 players and the chip leader has double my stack. Im under the gun and dealt a low pair no higher then 9s. I would like to know the best thing to do in this position

Generally folding 22-55, generally raising to 2x or up to 2.3x with 66-88.

Good evening,
which book do you recommend to correct my emotions when I go in tilt with a players who are aggressive in their games and bluff often

These people are great for you to play vs.

I'd pick up "Elements Of Poker", and id get "Excelling At No-Limit Tournaments."

Generalities of tournament play with the chip lead

Hi Protential,

I don't have a very good feel for the game when I get the lead in a poker tournament and I was hoping that you might have some nice pointers on how to play when I am in this position so that I might expand my stack of chips. If you could give examples to some basic scenarios that would be very cool. Thanks for all of the knowledge that you can bestow upon me.

Thanks

Play carefully aggressive.

Open loose, lots of small cbets, but play tight against aggression.

Easiest way to do well in soft local tourneys.

Best of luck!
Ty Ryan
the travel rake was more than I could bear so I ended up not going but will try to apply the jab-jab-duck approach to online low stakes poker, in the meantime!
Appreciated!!!

A bigger stack allows you to take more marginal situations, but you cant go overboard on it as you need to preserve your stack as well.

Beginner To MTT’s

Hello,

What advice would you give someone who is just starting out in MTT’s.

I know the rules of NL Holdem and what hand beats what, but I need to go back to the basic strategy and go from there.

What books or training sites do you recommend for someone wanting to compete in today’s tournaments?

Thank you!

Excelling at No limit Holdem by Jonathan Little is a good place to start.

That and upswingpoker.

Hello again Ryan,

I struggle with this scenario:

Our villain is a LAG player and he CBets on the flop everything, no matter the opening position nor the texture of the flop and we are out of position. We decide to check raise him with some draws of ours but not a made hand.He calls.

On the turn a scary card comes but we don't complete our draw , is it rational to lead turn representing the ''completed'' draw or the above move considered like burning chips?

I know it is a complex scenario but long story short is it OK if we check raise flop against someone who Cbets everything and give up turn if we miss?Or a second lead bullet may work some times?

In order to simplify the above chaos let's say we hold some nice blockers!

Thanks and Sorry at the same time 😀

I would like to play more live poker tournaments, but I have a problem with chip colours. The regular players and dealers all know the colours and the bet amounts are easy for them to see from the bunch of chips players put out.
As one of about 10% of males who have specific colour deficiencies, there is no way for me to quickly assess the size of the raise. I feel uncomfortable asking the dealer every time.
To add to the concern, some tournament chips are so faded, I am at an even bigger loss.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey Protential. Sorry if this has been asked before, haven't read the entire thread yet. If you had a really baby bankroll, say in the neighborhood of 20 to 40 dollars, what would be your go-to formats to build it up profitably? I think bounty tournaments would help a lot but would like to know your opinion. Thanks

Hey Protential!
I'm fairly early into this new bankroll I started 6 months ago from nothing. 5 months ago from $50, etc. I love MTT's but just got some advice that perhaps they may not be the best for me at this stage in my bankroll. I just gathered up $200 and am playing on ACR, and live with friends (where I make the bulk of my money). Should I avoid MTT's and stick with sit and go's? Would love to hear your opinion and if you play on ACR, any specifics regarding their available tournaments would be highly appreciated. Thanks!
