Do you ever feel blinded down without realizing it?

Sometimes in tournaments I get so focused on waiting for a strong spot that suddenly my stack is much shorter than I expected. The blinds go up quickly and it feels like patience can turn into passiveness if you’re not careful.

Finding the balance between staying disciplined and staying active is harder than it looks.

Do you ever feel like you get blinded down too much, or are you naturally aggressive enough to avoid that?

At first, I paid attention to such moments, but the more I played and got used to the structure of the tournaments I participated in, the less I paid attention to them, because now I know when and where to do something.

The blinds will always lose, that's normal.

Of course, it always happens, and what's most frustrating is that the big hands don't come through, but hey, you also have to vary your game and call with low pairs or try to connect flush draws or straights.

EAnd don't expect to only play with strong hands in turbo tournaments; that will cause your chips to melt away. Try to play in position, read your opponents' playing style,

What you’re feeling is a classic trap: “waiting for strong hands vs blinds growing faster than cards come.” In tournament poker, time works against passive waiting — even if you play perfectly tight, the blinds will still eat away your stack.
Experienced players don’t solve this by simply “becoming more aggressive by personality,” but by automatically applying pressure in the right spots.
They regularly open wider from late positions, even with less-than-premium hands, simply to pick up blinds and antes. This isn’t impulsive aggression — it’s mathematical necessity.
And the key shift is in mindset: not “I’m waiting for a premium hand,” but “where can I profitably take this pot down without showdown or with minimal risk?”
A very common mistake is being “disciplined” in a passive sense — meaning you fold well, but don’t compensate with pressure. As a result, your stack slowly bleeds away, and you suddenly find yourself short without noticing how it happened.
So the balance is not really between discipline and aggression, but rather: discipline in choosing spots, and aggression in executing them.

Very well stated, I agree 100%

There is often a spot where suddenly the blinds are going up at a quicker rate, the main thing is not to panic, and also check your posistion relative to the field.

Sometimes you can be suddenly down to 15bbs, but actually you're say 100/240 left, so actually its still no time to panic yet, but be very aware of how many bbs you'll have after the blinds go up again.

In live poker with the BB ante this can seem to happen much more quickly.....brutally so at times!!

Yes, it happens quite often in MTTs if you become too passive or card dead.

Sometimes you keep waiting for premium hands, and suddenly the blinds become a big part of your stack.
That’s why stack awareness is very important in tournaments.
You need to identify good steal or reshove spots before reaching a desperate situation.

In MTTs, survival matters — but staying active at the right time matters too.

For me, the key is being selectively aggressive.

Aggression works best when applied in the right spots — position, stack pressure, weak opponents, etc.
Patience doesn’t mean playing scared; it means avoiding unnecessary marginal situations.

I try to stay disciplined early, then increase aggression when the dynamics are favorable.
Good poker is usually about controlled aggression, not constant aggression.

Yesterday for example.
Was with 17.500 and waited for the money.
When I was in the money I only had 7.500 left.
Made it to podium, lost with KK against AJs or something like that.
Yesterday I ended the tourney with bronze prize, but Im here for the gold.
And the gold will be mine.
Go for the gold.
God bless

Yeah… sometimes we get so used to certain feelings or situations that we don’t even realize they’re weighing us down until much later.
