Do you think fast structures reward instincts more than deep thinking?

In faster online tournaments, decisions come quickly and there’s less time to analyze every spot deeply.

It almost feels like instincts and rhythm become more important than detailed calculations.

Do you think turbo structures reward different skills compared to slower tournaments?

There is a difference that diminishes with practice/experience. If you test a beginner and an experienced player, the experienced player's decisions will be more consistent across structures.
The turbo structure relies more on anticipation. If you don't pay close attention to your opponents, statistics, etc., beforehand, you will make much worse decisions. It's like: you need to know which formula to use, and when the time comes to act, you just replace x with the given value. If you have to think about which formula to use, you'll have problems.
Experienced players have seen more situations, so they can use that to their advantage. Studies have been done with chess players, comparing experts with non-experts. In real situations, experts performed better because they had already been through that situation so many times that they knew the next 5, 7, or 10 moves. In random situations, the performance of experts and non-experts didn't change much. More experienced players are better able to discriminate between situations and make better decisions in less time.

I agree. Experience often gets confused with instinct, but really, that ability to process the situation more quickly has much more to do with having seen it hundreds of times before that "instinct".

I think it is not intuition but experience that is rewarded more in faster tournament structures.
But in the end these fast tournaments are way more luck dependend than slower structured tournaments.

Turbo and hyper-turbo structures reward a different strategic skill set compared to slower MTTs. While fundamental poker concepts remain the same, the reduced effective stack depths and accelerated blind pressure significantly increase the importance of preflop theory, push/fold accuracy, and ICM awareness.
In slower structures, players have more opportunities to exploit postflop tendencies and accumulate EV through small edges over many streets. In turbos, however, decision trees become compressed, which shifts the edge toward players who can adapt quickly, recognize profitable reshove spots, and maintain composure under constant pressure.
I also think mental endurance and rhythm become underrated factors in fast formats. Since variance is naturally higher, emotional control and the ability to avoid panic adjustments are extremely important for long-term profitability.

The advantage is better for new players. Now dont get me wrong here as good players do just as well but with the faster structure players who are newer have a better chance to get deeper with luck. A deepstack longer levels drive the advantage big time to the best players.
