What is your mathematical and psychological stance on late-registering tournaments at the absolute last minute with a 10bb to 15bb stack? Do you view the immediate ICM value and time saved as a massive edge, or do you feel that passing up the deep-stacked, high-ROI early levels against weaker players ruins your overall tournament edge?

To be honest I think late req so short is a mistake overall and more so for good players. Good players can and do build up some nice stacks at the early levels. We also need to remember why we play the game. Its enjoyment and what do we gt late Reg that short.

Now if your not so good I can see some advantage here. Its easy to just shove a hand and hope for the best when a large amount of people are out and a double up will get you in the game.

While late Reg has it advantages I would never recommend signing up so short.

The only thoughts I have on late reg is when combined with endless rebuy's and 3+ hours of late reg it's moronic and just insanely terrible for the avg rec/hobby player which is the majority. The majority aren't rebuying endlessly we simply don't have the bankroll. But hey site's don't care it makes them tons of rake on an MTT that has a set cost.

Personally I prefer freezeouts. The size of ones wallet shouldn't give one an advantage in an MTT even if it's a small advantage.

As for the OP's question personally I'm start the MTT on time guy and build a stack early by playing the weaker players at my tables. But then that's just me I prefer playing poker over playing a short stack shoving lottery style.

Cheers!!!

I generally avoid late registration with less than around 30BB, unless there is an overlay. And in KOs or PKOs I am late regging much less, because as soon as players are knocked out, money is taken out of the price pool, which late reggers did not even get a chance to compete for.

I'd agree with that. If you have a skill edge, skipping the deep-stacked levels means giving up a lot of opportunities to outplay weaker opponents. Sure, late reg saves time and reduces variance a bit, but starting with 10–15bb turns the tournament into mostly push/fold decisions. I'd rather have the extra playability and a chance to build a stack early.

I mostly agree. I also think PKOs are a special case because by late registering you've already missed chances to win bounties, which is real EV that's gone for good. In regular tournaments I might late reg occasionally if time is limited, but in PKOs I'd much rather start early and maximize every opportunity.

Not much to say I agree with @Luvepoker .

In my opinion, it would be best if there were no late registrations and re-entries. I think that would be the best for both the players and the game.

It all depends on the situation, but I will almost always play very aggressively, with more or less strong cards. If you ask me with which hands, with any pair and with the ones shown in the picture.

I think its always better to register pre tournament but personally I have to late reg quite a lot due to commitments elsewhere so I like the option. Even though you are usually severely handicapped by doing so it only takes one hand to change all that.

late registration is fine in my opinion . you can save lots of time and actually have a better chance to make it thru the bubble . yes , you will seldom have a monster stack and go deep , but it can still be +EV . that said , i would almost never enter a bounty or PKO late !

It's better to be in your seat on time. Players who think that they have an advantage by registering late are just fooling themselves. Sure, joining late will prevent you from finishing last but it will also reduce the chances of you cashing highly. Finishing 35th out of 100 pays the same as last place, so be in your seat on time and win money early with your skill edge while all of the fish are still giving it away.

These are different strategies for starting a tournament.. nowadays, i’m used to entering in some big MTTs with fewer than 20 big blinds. As registration nears its end, the game dynamics differ from playing with 70+ big blinds—opponents play fewer hands,.! I preffer sometimes

Jumping in at the last minute is a good option when you're short on time. But if you have time to spare, it's better to get in early and patiently build up a big stack. Entering at the very end of late registration puts you under immediate pressure—it's not ideal. Whenever I can, I join around the fourth level; by then, the initial frenzy has already died down.

You can say, that PKOs is a "special case", but today there are more online MTTs with bounties than without. Right now on PokerStars there are 12 MTTs open for late registration, and only 5 of those are not PKOs. This is of course just a snapshot, but the picture would not be that much different, if I looked at a different time of day or on another poker site. So to have this discussion without considering PKOs is pretty detached from reality.

I've had good and bad results with both approaches. Starting on time gives me more room to play, but late registration can also work when the field is soft. I just try to stay flexible instead of following one rule every time.

I prefer to start the tournament from the beginning. I think playing the early levels offers more opportunities to build a stack. Registering with only 10–15 big blinds means you're basically in push/fold mode from the very first hand.

Concordo completamente.
Jogando no late reg você fica sem opção de jogo, apenas fold ou all-in, e contando com a sorte do baralho caso tenha uma mão boa.
Prefiro iniciar no torneio com o stack igual e ir melhorando meu stack ao longo do torneio.
