The Importance of Chip Preservation

I've learned that protecting my chips is often more important than trying to win every pot. Staying alive in a tournament creates more opportunities later.

I heard a quote one time that said “protect your chips, not your ego” I can’t remember where I heard it but it’s always stuck with me when I play.

I agree. That's actually something I'm still learning. Sometimes I get impatient and want to play more hands, but I've realized that staying alive in the tournament is often more valuable than trying to win every pot. I still have a lot to learn, but I'm becoming more patient with every tournament I play.

Our chips are our soldiers. They can't gain any ground for us if we never deploy them out of the barracks. On the other hand, senselessly wasting them will leave us defenseless.
