PKO strategy question: In a $108 Bounty Hunters tournament on GG, I saw a player with a $37.50 reward while most had $25. Is it right to equalize with a wider range against the larger reward, even with fringe hands like AJs or 77? I know you get half instantly, but I'm not sure how much wider my range should be. How do you adjust the ranges?

You only adjust your range, if the bounty is already in play or very likely to get in play.

The raw size of the bounty is not what determines how wide we call. The ratio of stack size to bounty is what we are looking for. Players with big stacks often have bigger bounties. Example: player has 3x starting bounty that looks good but they have 4x starting stack which means their bounty has a worse ratio than a player that has starting bounty and starting stack.

The reason it is worse is we have to risk more to win it. Only half the MTT is bounties. Risking a FT stack to win a 3x bounty is -EV.

🤔🤓

Yeah but I wouldn't be opening wider for bigger bounty automatically. It depends on how much of their stack I'm risking and if I'm covering them so in PKO it's only valuable to me if they are eliminated.

By using a $37.50 bounty versus the usual $25, I'd be adjusting to widener my ranges in all in/call spots, but I would not be automatically adjusting all my AJs/77 to be calls. Let's see

Effective stack/how much I'm risking
My position and villain range
How big is the bounty to me (pot?)
Am I covering them?
Tournament/ICM situation

Bigger bounty for the risked stack means I can call wider, adjust the range instead of chasing it. 🃏
