Is playing smaller fields better for building a bankroll?

've mostly been playing large-field tournaments because the buy-ins are affordable for my bankroll and the prize pools are obviously attractive. The problem is that I've noticed I can make several deep runs in a 2,000–3,000 player field and still not make much money unless I go extremely deep.

I'm starting to wonder if I'd be better off playing slightly more expensive tournaments with maybe 300–800 players, assuming I can still maintain proper bankroll management.

Obviously a smaller field doesn't automatically mean easier opponents, but I'm interested in how other players approach this when bankroll is limited.

Do you prioritize field size, buy-in, or expected ROI when choosing tournaments?

It could be more profitable to opt for smaller fields, but not necessarily more expensive buy-ins.

Obviously better odds to win with smaller fields but ROI tho is better with larger fields. My consideration at this time is time, A large field takes a lot of time to finish than that of a smaller field so going with it mostly otherwise I would go for higher ROI tourneys.

Pro MTT players play in smaller fields most often. they take shots at bigger fields, but their skill level matters more when they are taking fewer flips because the field is smaller.

🤔🤓

Q.From tournaments that last a long time there can be a drop in concentration so my recommendation is to play tournaments with fewer players.

For me, bankroll management comes first. I don't mind playing larger fields if the buy-in is comfortable for my bankroll, but I also like smaller fields when the structure gives me enough time to play. I would rather have a good structure and a buy-in I can afford than choose a tournament just because the prize pool is bigger.
