I felt like I was dominating practically the entire tournament, but that made me take risks that backfired, causing me to lose focus. Any advice on maintaining the strategy until the end?
That’s one of the most difficult parts of tournament poker. When you’ve been dominating for hours, confidence can slowly turn into overconfidence without you even noticing it.
A lot of players stop playing the table and start playing the feeling of being unstoppable. That’s usually when unnecessary hero calls, loose bluffs, or marginal spots begin to appear.
One thing that helps is mentally treating every new level or table redraw as a “reset.” Even if you’ve controlled the tournament so far, the final stages reward discipline more than momentum. The players left are usually more patient, stacks become more valuable, and one mistake costs far more than earlier in the event.
The best tournament players often look emotionally neutral deep in a run — not because they aren’t confident, but because they stay attached to the process rather than the result.
