Long tournaments test more than poker skills. Staying patient, managing your energy, and maintaining concentration become increasingly important as the event goes on.

Day 1 of the 2019 wsop Colossus event started at 10 am and went till 1 am…it is both physically and mentally exhausting…I somehow survived Day 1, which meant that I made the money, but I was out in the first hour of Day 2 for a little more than the min cash. Poker tournaments are now the domain of youngsters, not meant for 73 year olds like me. I doubt that I would play another WSOP event.

I have trouble with endurance. That's why I prefer sit&gos and cash games.

"Good morning, everyone! It sounds like a set phrase, but that is not the intention: the more you study, the less tiring it becomes to play for many hours. Of course, everything has a limit, and the secret is to keep practicing and have discipline. I remember when I started playing poker, I would already be tired in 3 or 4 hours; today I can play for 10 hours smoothly if I'm on many screens. Now, if I'm playing a single screen, I become totally impatient."

I've found that staying hydrated, eating light during breaks, and avoiding autopilot decisions late in a session makes a big difference. It's amazing how much your edge can disappear after several hours if you're mentally drained.

The problem isn't the long tournament; the problem is the late registration that never ends.

I also have problems with stamina. I end up preferring short tournaments and cash games.

Multi-day online tournaments are mentally draining, I can't even imagine playing for 10 hours or more, let alone live tournaments lol

Though it definitely feels the most rewarding when the run gets deep, but gosh, personally it needs a lot of preparation to hang on and be consistent.

Congratulations on making the money in such a demanding event. Surviving a long WSOP Day 1 is an achievement by itself. Experience and patience never go out of style, regardless of age. Wishing you the best at the tables if you decide to play another big event someday

I can definitely relate. Endurance is a huge factor in MTTs, and it's not easy for everyone. Sit & Go's and cash games are great alternatives because they require less time while still offering plenty of strategic depth

I completely agree. Fatigue can be just as dangerous as a bad beat. I've noticed that many mistakes happen late in a tournament, not because players don't know the right play, but because they're tired and lose focus. Staying mentally fresh is a huge edge in long events.

The best way to overlook the length of a tournament is to play it all the time. If a tournament takes place simultaneously, you can play five or six tournaments at a time. Time will fly by much faster than you will be playing. It's better to play one long poker tournament and focus solely on it.
