When you have build a track record as a winning player at your current stakes, and its not all due to one or two large cashes.

If you:

  • have 100+ buy ins for the level you’re targeting
  • are getting deep runs fairly often over a decent sample
  • are comfortable with late-game spots

Then you’re in a good spot to move up.

nice topic man!
I would say this is very individual to you person because you must feel confortable @medium stakes, i would try it out with small session at the lowest medium level und you will see it in 30-60 min if you are ready for this.
My advice is if you feel you wont make money at this stage then play on your usual games for a few months and try to get back stronger.

Hey leomarinho! Honestly, the most important thing is bankroll management. You really need to make sure your bankroll can take the hits, because the swings at medium stakes can be brutal compared to micros. I'd say have at least 50-100 buy-ins ready before you even think about it.And totally agree with fundiver199, you need a solid sample size showing you're a proven winner first, not just a couple of lucky deep runs.My advice is just to take a small shot. Set aside like 3 to 5 buy-ins for the new stakes and try it out. If it goes well, awesome. If not, just swallow your pride and drop back down to micros to rebuild. The players get a lot more aggressive at medium stakes so be prepared for a bit of a adjustment period. Good luck man!

When you got 100 buy-ins for the next level of MTT's you're ready to start taking some shots higher. I personally enjoy and am good at longer 10+ min blind level MTT's so that's what I play no matter my bankroll starting at $5+ buy-ins. There's nothing wrong with taking shots a bit higher then your bankroll allows in my opinion just long as the majority of the MTT's you play stay with-in you bankroll. Like for example I might have only $600 bankroll but say I missed the regular $5 buy-in longer blind level MTT I normally play on Saturdays and Sundays but I see one coming up in a bit for $11-$22....I'll just in and play that one this time and take a shot. I can do this because I'm not a reg grinding many MTT's per day.....now days I might get to play only 4-8 MTT's a each weekend so playing one a bit higher between $11-$22 each month is nothing really.

I also during the weekdays play full-ring micro cash 2nl-10nl mostly but have played in the past as high as 50nl which I do ok at most weeks so my bankroll is mostly always growing a small bit even if I don't cash a single MTT on the weekends.

My advice would be to find a system something like mine that works for you and that you're comfortable with. Being comfortable with your bankroll for the volume you play is a bit of a personal thing. Start with least 100 buy-ins thou and go from there.

Cheers!!!
