What adjustments should you make as a big stack in a Mystery Bounty late in the tourney but BEFORE the bounties go live?

I satted into the 5.50 Mystery Bounty Frenzy on 888 and had a very nice sized stack a couple hours in. I got moved to what can only be described as the dream table about 30 minutes before the bounties came into play. I had 55bb while the entire rest of the table had under 10bb.

I played very face up, stealing only enough blinds to not shrink my stack too much, avoiding big hands with the intention of keeping as many of the short stacks in play for two reasons- to have more easily accessible bounties once level 17 came and to avoid having another big stack moved to the table. I bled far more chips than I would have in any other MTT where I would be steamrolling the table. My VPIP dropped from the mid 30s to around if not under 20. I could have easily been the chip leader but I dropped from being 3rd in chips to the teens. Once the bounties dropped though I knew it would all be worth it because there would be lots of easily attainable bounties... or so I thought. Everyone at the table was so close in chips there was hardly any action. Everyone tightened up incredibly and the only thing that happened was me doubling up a short stack calling AK with AT.

The plan was shattered when the table broke on level 18 and I was moved to another table, by the time I got there I only had 30-35bb. I was devastated, I felt like I threw away a big edge for absolutely nothing. This table move ended up being a great thing though because I chipped up through the chip leader and had a massive 4 way suckout with Q4 and scooped some bounties and chipped up. I ended up placing 3rd and cashing $180 but I can't help but think I over-adjusted and sacrificed too much before the table move. Cashing decently felt much more like luck than a well executed plan so I'm curious to hear what everyone else thinks about that spot.

Yeah I dont think, any big adjustments are needed in that particular situation. You can just play pretty much in chip EV, like if it was a cash game or early in an MTT. In general its often a mistake to focus to much on "the overall picture" rather than the individual hand, you are playing right now.

Yeah, I think it was a blunder. I wasn't thinking of the risk of a table change even though those have destroyed me in other MTTs before. I hate playing slow and conservative. I'd rather my punts be exciting lmao
