I Think

I Think the best play is to be aggressive or tight. I mostly be tight and waited for the right hand in the best position. And then i play not only donk i try to play strategy. I hope i could help you.

There is a big element of luck in satellites due to large number of participants. But statistically - if you play a lot of them you can expect some result.
Clever thing is to start tight, not to go all in on first premium hand... after some time more experienced players stay and they play full tight or full aggressive. Best would be to balance those...
I start tight, then aggressive and again tight...
Or I start aggressive, earn a lot so I can play tight.
In mid tournament stage it's smart to look stacks and position more than a hand you hold.

Hello.
I often play in satellites and often win prizes. My strategy is to be patient throughout the tournament and not play with junk. This approach gives quite good results in the long run.

Generally, the best strategy is to do the opposite of what your opponents are doing. If everyone is loose, use a tight style and expect good hands to play with little or no risk (and vice versa, try to steal most of the pots if your opponents are tight). With a short stack, be careful when playing against chip leaders who have a lot of chips.

This is a bit like asking, what is the best strategy to play poker on mondays. There are many things, which are more important for your strategy than the fact, its monday. And there are also many things, which are way more important for your strategy than the fact, its a satellite.

Only when you get near the bubble or have build a stack large enough to almost certainly cash, does it even matter, that you are playing a satellite. At this point - but only then - do you need to make adjustments because of the fact, your goal is only to cash and not to win. And this can sometimes mean adjustments as big as folding AA preflop, if other players have moved all-in, and calling and winning wont increase your chance of cashing enough to justify the risk.

Fundiver pretty much said it above, I think if you are talking about large MTT satellites then you are better of playing it the same way as any other MTT until it gets closer to the bubble and then you need to make adjustments depending on how many tplaces get a ticket your position vs short stacks etc. I tend to find if you have ever played DON S&Gs in the past the bubble stage of satellites require a similar strategy and that may include throwing away AA, KK etc.

However if you are talking about the 16 players (2-shootout) satellites on stars then good luck, IMO they are a bit of a waste of time alot of luck involved but if you have a good short stack game and know your push/fold strategies then you can do ok in them I suppose.

I think it all depends on how many players get the a prize, what the average stack size is (in relationship to your stack) in later stages of the tournament and usually I play tight at the beginning of these tournaments as there are a lot of people playing to many hands.

A lot of people don't understand that the number one goal in a satellite is the ticket because there is no cash prizes..so my main advice to you is if your ticket in locked up then don't risk your chips, just fold....Even with aces you are not guaranteed to win so don't risk it...many people I see playing these games misunderstand the concept of them..hope this helps

Play agressive in the beginning after you double up take a rest sit out 5 min and again aggressive play and double take 5 min break and play with only good cards at the end never play only all in usually I get success with this strategy

I struggle some times I feel that I always want to stay in the hand with mid or low pair and hope for two pairs on turn or river. Eventually you will get one, just gotta hope its not too late

Tight and Aggressive style pf play works in Satellites. Also ICM works a bit differently in satellites as Top prize and last prize is usually Ticket of same value in most satellites.
