For live tournaments I would ban unlimited rebuys....it puts the game into the hands of those with no strategy but tapping into variance and ultimately weakens poker play. A video game with unlimited lives presents no challenges if you can just restart all the time from the point you die.
For online tournaments I'd cap entrants at a reasonable figure like 1500 or so. Long enough to be a challenge...small enough to not be playing for 6 or more hours. If you aren't playing for life changing money you don't need to be playing more than 1/4 of a day.
