After getting dealt nothing but absolute trash for ages, I finally picked up pocket Jacks UTG
with only 7 players left before the money! 😭

I raise, next player calls… then the chip leader decides to launch a missile and shoves all-in. The next player SNAP calls. 💀

With only 8BB left, my JJ was like: “We got this!”
Me: “Bro… we’re not dying here.” 😂

So I folded and watched my Jacks leave the table with more confidence than I had. 😭
And guess what? GOOD FOLD! 😂

You made a good decision, it's hard for me to retire, with regular pairs, because I think I might get another card for a trillo.

Good gold, a snap call of a 3-bet is usually very strong, except if it's a known fish. 🤓

Good morning, everyone! I see a lot of beginners or players who don't study poker worrying too much about a single hand or a bad beat, when we should actually be focusing on the long term, volume, and studying. This JJ hand with 10bb should be a direct shove from UTG; that's the correct play. Once you make the right move, you no longer have control over what happens next. Therefore, you should only worry about what you can control: your own actions. JJ lost to KK? This is going to keep happening. There will be days when you're going to lose with JJ to TT. That's poker!

I feel like this hand should have been an all-in from the start, but what you did managed to keep you alive. Once the big stack instantly went all-in and the other player called, folding became much more obvious. Still, given the stack you had, I feel like I would have gone all-in anyway.

Pocket Jacks are definitely the most stressful hand in poker! Pre-flop they look amazing, but as soon as the flop drops an Ace, King, or Queen, you immediately feel like you are holding trash. It’s so hard to play them correctly because you either win a small pot or lose a massive one. Every time I get JJ, I try to keep the pot small unless the flop is completely low. They truly are the most overrated hand that brings the biggest headaches! How do you guys usually play them in 3-bet pots?

This is a typical example of confirmation bias. Minraising and then folding JJ preflop with a 10BB starting stack is not a good play. But because the 52% VPIP maniac jamming on you happened to have KK this time, you feel confirmed, that you made a good decision. And presumably you managed to limp into the money and min-cash, which is of course good. But the main goal in MTTs is not to min-cash. Its to reach the final table and then try to win the tournament or at least finish in top 3.

In this particular situation it would have been another 8BB for you to call to win a pot of more than 34BB. So even if they had showed you KK and AK, you were close to getting the right odds to call it off with JJ at least in Chip-EV. And more importantly you should not even have to make that decision. Your stack was to short to do anything other than open jam yourself, especially on the bubble, where you do not want to induce even with a hand as strong as JJ.

It was a tough decision. But you chose the right path and everything worked out in the end.

I would hate seeing those huge jams before me but with JJ I think I gotta call. 8bb, we're not getting a better hand the rest of the way here so unless there's an imminent pay jump close by we gotta stick it in and pray.

Oh wait, you min raised UtG with JJ and 8bb??? Oh, you deserve to lose. That was terrible.
