Hello again :).
This one is a true little story.

There was a big poker event at the Borgata (AC) and I decided to go. Once there, I couldn't even get to the parking lot as crowded as it was. So, I decided to go park at the nearest casino and take one of those little buses that go around to go back. Somehow, I ended up at the Taj. The parking lot was almost empty. I got curious and I went inside. There were people there but a lot less than usual. Then I remembered that I had a Taj card and went to the front desk to see, with very little conviction, if I have a room as comp. I had played there (One time) a few months earlier.
Surprisingly, the girl said: "Sure you do sir, would you like to check in?". As I was thinking about it (I had no room at the Borgata), she added: "Oh, I can even upgrade it to a suite if you want to only pay its tax".
That's what competition does!

What would you do? Pay $35 for a suite? Or settle for a regular free room?

PS: Regular room = $295 a night on weekends and special events.

That's what I ended up doing, but honestly, I would've been happy with the regular room if I was by myself!

I’m taking the suite, easy. $35 for that upgrade during a packed event is pure value. No way I’m passing that up 😄

It depends, how much time are you going to spend in the room?

If you are only going to sleep there then no reason to upgrade, but if you are going to be doing some work, or playing poker, or hanging out with friends, etc - then the suite is a great deal.

The packed event was not there, otherwise I couldn't be offered even a regular room. But it wasn't too far though.

$35 for a suite seems pretty reasonable! I’d pay it, because if I’d left home to gamble, I wouldn’t miss $35. The important thing is not to go over the budget set aside for “fun”—that should always be the mindset of anyone who gambles! The comfort is great, and I like it! Good luck, and congratulations on yesterday’s Platinum tournament, Sami!

Honestly, suite or not, when you're at the casino, you only spend a few hours in the room. When you're really dead tired.

If it was only up to me, I would've taken the regular room. 1st of all, I wasn't even expecting to have that offer, and to tell you the truth, those rooms are already top notch, with everything you could possibly need, plus a beautiful view on the ocean.
But I have to say that the suite experience was worth every second too.

And thank you Diva. In fact, yesterday's tournament only confirms what I've always said: "Poker is the craziest, the weirdest and the most interesting and enjoyable game ever". If someone doesn't believe in miracles, ask them to play it.

I'm glad you enjoyed your time at the casino! As for poker, I agree—anything can happen! And if it's a game among friends, even better!

I agree, but only to a certain extent. When playing only for fun or for just a little something, yes.
But playing against friends for a real prize or in an important event has always been hard for me.

I’m still taking the suite. For $35, turning a quiet spot into your own little luxury base near the action is a no-brainer.

I'd definitely pay the $35 for the suite, with the main reason being that I can't remember ever staying in one. :) I'm what is often referred to as someone who is low maintenance and a "cheap date", so it would be nice to splurge for once. :)

Yeah, I feel bad too when I win chips from a friend, but I know he or she will take it better than my “enemies” (lol). Just kidding… I hope I don’t have any enemies, either in poker or in life! That’s definitely the best thing to have!

Believe it or not, it was my 1st and last time. But it was worth every second, let alone tat unforgettable 2 hour jacuzzi.

And so do I. I even don't like that poker term "Villain". I don't understand why people keep insisting on using it. I always say "opponent". As citizens of the world and poker players, I think we should leave terms as "enemy" and "villain" to war lovers.

I don’t like paying over the odds. Generally speaking, standard facilities are quite enough for me – the main thing is that it’s clean. In most cases, I’ll go for the cheaper option.

Yes we are opponents, not enemies or villains, we are all heroes

I can't really see any cheaper than a suite for $35, but I understand your point.

A little off topic but a true story this one too...
Years ago my wife and I were spending the night at the capitol city of our country. We had booked a regular room, arrived on time and got our key cards.
So upstairs we went and opened the door... only to find three Asian men sitting on the bed in a ring formation, wearing only their underwear and playing cards.
We closed the door as soon as we could and stormed back to the lobby. They were surprisingly unapologetic about it, but we managed to get bumped up to a really nice suite for the same price.

Wow! That's some story! How the hell they managed to make such a mistake?
At least the suite was well deserved there ;).

I agree completely. I've made a lot of friends and met loads of nice people while competing in small bore rifle, sporting clays, and poker tournaments. I would never refer to them as villains. :(

I know. I've been playing poker for years now and no one has ever explained to me why that "villain" word has been chosen. And what I hate more and don't understand is that pros and content creators are using it all the time, like nothing!!!

I’d definitely pay extra. I love comfortable surroundings and am happy to pay extra for them. Quite simply, there’s no reason why I shouldn’t treat myself to this.
