Day 1 Update
Sorry for the delay on the update folks. I was out late last night and didn't expect to wake up so late! But we are up, rested and ready for poker for the next two days straight. I am hoping they prove as fruitful as the first.
Day 1 was a pretty good day as far as how far I got. I started off with 8$ and and played for most of the day with little gains. After a little sleep and some renewed initiative I put in some very good sessions and worked my way up to 17.07$. I'd say doubling your bankroll on the first day is probably a very good start. Right now the only games unlocked to me are .02/.04 NLHE Cash Games (there are 5 of them) and a .60 Buyin Sit N Go (Named the Fast Fifty). Here is my experience in both.
The Fast Fifty (Sit N Go) - .50 + .10 Buyin - This tournament goes so fast that if you had all good players sitting at it, it would be so much more about luck then skill it would kill any kind of play. Fortunately, the players playing there are on the opposite end of the spectrum. With a little luck if you just sit back and wait for hands then maximize the profit (never hard with so many callers) then you should be able to make the money every time.
Havana - .02/.04 NLHE - Again the players here are so soft that to beat the game you just have to wait for a hand and then when you get one make sure you get the most value you can. It is not uncommon to triple or quadruple up at these tables as you will usually find more then a few calling stations.
Daily Lesson: Value Betting
A sometimes overlooked part of poker value betting is very integral to a good players game. Value betting isn't about betting the most when you've got it or even just maximizing your wins. It's about betting the 'amount' with the hands you have with the board you have and most importantly your opponent and your opponents hand. For instance if you have 2 3 and the flop comes A Q 7 rainbow and you know your opponent isn't going to fold most of the time and has A A, then you are not going to bet. Even though it is a duhr that you shouldn't bet the 2 3 into the A A for most you just have to realize that you stand nothing to gain from making any x amount of bet. Same thing with A A with the A Q 7 rainbow and your opponent has 2 3 but you know he's not likely to call but there is a good chance he likes to bluff. There is no value in betting here and you serve better to your value to check this flop in hopes that he bluffs since there is no card that can help him. Of course these are two extreme cases and aren't likely to happen but you should surely learn to maximize the value of your bets i.e. Bet a lot when you have the better of two great hands, bet to stall your opponent or check on a draw, fold bad hands or hands you stand nothing to gain, etc.
Overall, I am hoping that day 2 is just as fruitful as day 1 and that I can at the least move up in stakes by Monday. I have done the math and I will have to move up in stakes once every 6.6667 days to reach my goal and it would be best to beat that date the first time since some of the time I will most undoubtedly have less time to play then others.
