I prefer 6-max tables (six-handed).

There are more hands per hour than at full ring tables.

There are more opportunities to attack the blinds.

Skill and aggression are rewarded more.

There is less reliance on premium hands.

I participated in a live tournament with 12 players at each table, which was very difficult to see the cards, and besides being cramped in the seat, the opponent to my right ended up drinking my soda.
I prefer 9 at most.

I don't play in tournaments with fewer than 8 players. I'm used to playing in tournaments with 9 or 8 players at the table and don't consider other options. Other tournaments would require me to adjust my strategy. And since I'm lazy, it's easier for me to play in the tournaments I'm used to :)

Honestly, I prefer 8-handed tables. It’s the format I’ve studied the most and the one I feel most comfortable with.

In low buy-in tournaments or freerolls, where many players tend to go all-in with very weak hands, full tables allow you to play more conservatively. By being patient and paying attention to opponents tendencies, it’s often easier to double up without taking unnecessary risks.

For that reason, the more players at the table, the better it is for me.

In cash games I usually like to play 6-max tables, but in tournaments I don't know have a clear preference, because I like to test all of the table structure variety available to play: I played the since the usual 9-max tables until the Total KO Head's Up (2-max bounty only) tables and I liked both.

If I had to choose, I prefer 6-max. It feels like the perfect balance between action and structure. You’re involved in more hands than at a full-ring table, so there’s more room for aggression and creativity, but it’s not as wild or high-variance as short-handed 4-max games can be.

At 8 or 9-handed tables, the game tends to be tighter and more position-focused. That’s great for discipline and fundamentals, but sometimes it can feel a bit slow, especially if the table is nitty.
