This must me true ,,if you consider that you have to pay 10-12% of your stake every time you start a tournament

I am a poker newbie.. 1 year experience mainly on free online sites.
Online: I deposited $25 on ACR ~4 months back and I am at $27 now playing 1/2cents.. So up $2!!
Live: down $500, playing $1/2 once a week for last ~4 months.
I think you can be a winning player online, but difficult to win live due to rake and dealer tips.

I don't know the figures of those who earn but if someone earns money it is because it belonged to someone

This could be true if you count everyone who has played a hand. I've went on several group poker trips. It was not unusual at all to hear someone or multiple people say "I don't even remember the last time I played". There are lots of these players out there. They just go because their friends are going and are there to have a good time. They may only play once a year, or every two years, or even longer.

If you sit at the table long enough the house will rake you into oblivion. See "Gordon Brown's Poker Lesson" - something I wrote 12 years ago.

|I am one of the 90% to 95% that loses. Win a little and then lose a lot is my claim to fame

I don't really know about the truthfulness of this statistic, but 96% seems quite a high number in my opinion. If I had to guess I'd say between 80% and 85%, maybe as high as 90%. But this is just my opinion and I am basing this on absolutely nothing. :ROFLMAO:

That's right, only 1 in 20 poker players are the ones who are always winning, of course it is a product of the preparation of the players

Let's do very approximate math for live poker factoring in house rake plus tips (~30% ?)
Assume 10 max table.. each players buys in for $100
Total = 1000
House Take = 300
4 players lose everything = 0
4 players break even = 100 *4 = 400
2 players win 50 each = 150*2 = 300
so 20% of players make money in this session. Does this average out to only 5% winning over many sessions?

Is it accurate that 96% of online poker players lose money? I have seen several users on this forum in several threads throwing this statistic around. I would like to know if there is any basis for it; what study or source is this 96% figure based on?

And if you do not agree, what do you figure the statistical breakdown is amongst winners, break even players and losers? Thanks! 5️⃣
I do not think that the part of players who lose money is 96%. In my opinion, everything looks more optimistic and I think that about 80% of players lose money. Also, I think that only 5-7% of players earn money, and all the others do not lose but do not win, that is, their profit is close to zero.

It has no foundation.

Maybe they want to say that only 4% are profitable due to knowledge, not that there is a need for the 96% to lose for the others to win.

I think a little less - about 80-90 percent of players lose

I agree with below for live. ~15% winning players live. Online, my poker tracker 4 software indicates about 1/3 players are winning on ACR. This is confirmed by another article online (not sure if I am allowed to post links) which uses Holdem Manager and indicates 30-35% winning on ACR & BlackChip.

Poker is tough, poker rooms favor players from certain countries, from Brazil for example.

It depends on how you count. In general, it is impossible to lose money while playing freerolls, so everyone can win!

I personally think there is no way certain countries can play live cash games on 5 tables with 5000 cash in play

Did you notice irs never a game of more than 2 to 3 players playing against each other mostly picking on you

In actual real casinos usually it’s more than 3 players and they need to stop 6 handed because it gives more opportunity for 2 players to play with each other

Also they need to stop exposing our names I have left several tables and they keep following me
They do not have many cash players

That number is likely a bit too high in my opinion. Maybe only 4-5% are big winners but there are different levels of profiting that I think go below 96%. It is a hard number to come up with but it is likely more between 75-90%.

Yes, most members lose money, but who are these members? These are ordinary amateurs who have decided to reduce their time playing poker. There are few poker professionals who actually make money playing poker. Therefore, I think the 96% figure is more than real. In the long run, amateurs lose money, but pros stay in the black.

I would think this is true because on top of the rake and huge variation in skill levels, there are a huge number of people who sign up, maybe win a little but end up losing their initial deposit (due to skill level and bankroll management) and never coming back
