Yes, it is possible to earn extra income playing poker, but it requires study, emotional control, and discipline.

It is possible but it takes a lot of work and discipline and determination. Mark my words, It is very easy to put in a lot of work and lose it all before you can even use it. Bank roll management and self awareness (emotional control) is needed to secure any rewards.

I don't understand these questions. Just play and see if you can win something extra or not.

Ain't nothing to it but to do it.

Yes, people make money playing poker. The amount of money any individual makes is dependent on many things including their skill set, financial picture and enjoyment of the game.

The best way to see if it's possible for YOU to make money playing poker is to start playing poker and to work at improving until you start making money.

If you're not willing to put in the time and effort to improve at a competative game you're probably not going to make very much money.

If you spend the next 2 years obsessing over poker you might find yourself playing high rollers and in the top 0.01% of earners.

Like any other field you get what you put in.

But a better question you should be asking is "what can I do to make money in poker" , not "is it possible to make money playing poker" because you should already know it's possible to do so, it's incredibly obvious, you just need to decide if you're going to put the work in to get the rewards others are.

Probably so, but you have to study a lot.

those players, unless well off financially, play freerolls and never lose any money, but make extra
dollars daily in places like cardschat  do that first before going semi pro :giggle:

I totally relate to this. I'm not chasing fame or trophies — for me, it's about building something solid on the side. I play poker as a way to sharpen my mind and, yes, ideally earn some extra income along the way.

I’m focused on improving my discipline, studying consistently, and playing with bankroll management in mind. I don’t need to be a household name — I just want to see steady growth and know that my decisions are getting better over time.

There’s something rewarding in seeing poker as a skill-based side hustle. It’s not easy, but with the right mindset, it feels possible.

Yes, some people are better at it than others. The vast majority of people will lose their money. Most people will lose money over the long term, and some will win big.Just because it's a zero-cost game and you're not likely to get rich with it doesn't mean you shouldn't play it.

Before the passage of the Unlawful Internet gambling Act of 2006, it was relatively easy for U.S. players to earn extra income playing online poker. The market was thriving, with ample game selection and large prize pools. However, since the implementation of UIGEA—and subsequent legal and regulatory actions such as the Port Authorities Act—it has become increasingly difficult for American players to generate meaningful income from online poker. The decline in player traffic, reduced game variety, and diminished prize pools have all contributed to this downturn.

What about the ones who actually venture out beyond the freeroll security blanket? Aren't there some who are consistently winning money?

Of course, people like you.;) But they spend lots of money trying to make money 😊
And even the cheap games these days have very long late registration. People who have a live poker room nearby
can probably do the best. JMO

Honestly, if your current job pays decently, it is more probable you will have more income investing those hours at getting better at what you do. In this case, it only makes sense playing poker if you see it as a hobby.
