When that happens to you, you should let time pass a little and come back with more enthusiasm.

you must have a balanced life otherwise poker may burn you out, like any demanding job or passion

I get this after long losing streaks or I just get burned out on the game. You take a break and feel great.

Have you ever lost interest in poker for a while?

Me it is happening right now. I have been in love with poker for the past 10 or so years but lately I feel like hanging my chips aside.... Did you felt like thiis yourself?
I have been playing poker for over 12 years, and there have been several times when I lost interest in the game. To be more precise, there were things in my life that became more important at that moment and took priority. Take a break, and after a while, everything will fall into place.

I hadn't played for two years, then I came back, but not every day at all, sometimes 2-3 games a week

Oh yeah, I’ve been there. Sometimes poker feels like the greatest game ever invented… and other times it feels like the deck personally filed a restraining order against me.

I’ve had phases where even opening the client felt like a chore. That’s usually when I take a break, touch some grass, and remember what sunlight looks like.

Funny thing is, the interest usually sneaks back on its own. One day you’re "done with poker," and the next day you’re watching a random hand on YouTube thinking, "…okay maybe just one session."

Totally normal - even the poker gods take days off.

It's crazy how the game evolves when you take a break and return

No matter how burned out I get or how much I lose interest, I still come back to the game)

There was a time when I lost interest in poker for a few years, but then I started playing again and now I'm back to the point where I don't feel like playing at all. I can log in to the game every couple days for half an hour, but that's not always the case. I can skip the game for weeks on end.

I also lost interest in poker a long time ago, but not so much that I quit completely. I still play sometimes.

Once the emotion fades, the interest fades with it. At some point you realize it’s no longer a “game”, but discipline, patience, math, and self‑control. Some people love that, others lose the spark — and that’s perfectly fine. When the game stops pulling you in, it usually means you’ve gained clarity and moved to a different stage.

When you lose interest in something you're passionate about, you need to take a break and forget about it for a while, and the interest will soon return. But nothing in this life should be so captivating that you need to dedicate yourself entirely to your passion. Poker is no different; the most important thing is to know how to moderate your playing time and play occasionally when you're losing interest.

I just play freerolls these days. It pays to spread your interests. Poker can occupy a lot of your time if you let it.
