Luck is important factor, it can **** you up very well. Skill is more important but you can't ignore luck.
For example, i have pocket AA and i lose, villian with 22 get post flop another 2 and it ****s you up. I would say they are on pair 50/50 with skill.

Short-run luck vs long-run skill

Short-run, luck is huge, you can win or lose a lot on one or two hands. But long-term, tourney, or cash, being to integrate the needed skill with the luck is key.

You see a lot of the same names on the upper end of ladder here @ Cardschat. Due to variance, being on the upper end is due to luck and the skill to maximize said luck. You need both, not an either or.

For example. Tournament 3500 players. Three aces on the flop. You both go all in. You have two deuces, your opponent has two threes. Luck cheated on me. Sorry, I am writing through a translator.:(;)

You are talking for this epic freeroll!? Listen, gay , i mean mate, how many freerolls you have played!? You must play like 1 637 576 freerolls with 3500 players and then you can say "this is luck only" or "this is skills only". Two freerolls per day, it is like ...How much!? 2 000 years.

I have maybe 20 000 000 hands and I have "impossible" downswings. "Impossible" for the "poker theory". You can't imagine. You can't start to imagine. 400 buy-ins difference. "Luck adjusted" sh*t...But everything is fine, you know what I mean? I am still here, I still play for a living. I don't care.

Everyone can play poker, everyone can learn poker, everyone can play this sh*t for a living. $ 2 000 per month is pretty easy achievement. With some mini roll, $500..

There are always be excuses.

I tried without the translator. Am I good already :D!? Is any mistake somethere? Only two words with help from the translator. I never learned English. The poker knowledge is more interesting and more profitable for me.

This forum sucks. I thought different. Bye, gay..Friend..Сука..

Luck is the big part of play but it's not the most part. I mean you can lose with brilliant hand in the exact game because of the accident. But if you know how to play well - you will avoid the most risky situations and make more profitable. In the long distance it work well. Yesterday I won with AQ hand QQ where there was AAQ on the table. Is there any chance to have different end of the game for my opponent? - yes, probably he should make much more raise on preflop to make me go fold. But does someone really fold the hand when there is the same flop? - I think no, 99% players go till the all in. But there is only one winner.

Most important thing(s) in poker

Betting, in a nutshell, is the most important thing in poker imo. When your betting is VERY good you lose very little/break even on bad days. When you are betting well and exercising good bankroll management your graph will plateau or sustain only small dips, and your wins will shoot bankroll ever upwards.

Agreed

As they say, the first day of a player in poker depends on 10% skill and 90% luck. 366 a poker player's day depends on 90% skill and 10% luck

My old Cereus graphs sure seem to support that claim.
After a few million hands luck stopped being a factor. It was then about making sure I had at least 2+ good games in the money each day I played. I was confident the win is on the way real soon. Being "lucky" was so 2008...

Bankroll management: Regardless of how well you play, if you're under rolled, variance will bust you.
Game selection: Regardless of how good you are, if you consistently play against better players, you will go broke.
All the rest (willingness to learn, playing tons of hands, keeping accurate records, emotional control, etc.) are the foundation, but even if you master everything else, if you don't pay attention to the two above concepts, you will lose in the end.

Many newcomers to poker believe that the most important thing in the game is luck. In fact, this is not so. Professional players believe that only 10% of success depends on luck in poker, and the remaining 90% depends on the player's skills. I use various psychological techniques and expertly bluffing you can beat an opponent with the best combinations on the table, but what's your opinion?
You yourself already answered your question (only beginners think that luck decides everything in poker), to Unfortunately, in order to refute this, you need a rather long distance, which beginners are unlikely to play!

To play on the PS platform it really takes a lot of luck hahaha jk.
In theory in poker, something around 80% is a matter of skill and the remaining 20% (I think a little less) depends on luck. So studying poker is essential, skills will dominate and influence your game more.

As someone once said “Poker is 80% skill and the other half is luck”.

I totally disagree with that. It should be as 80% luck and 20% skill. The law of large numbers doesn't mean so much for poker because it's not a coin toss or a casino game against the house with a fixed edge. Every tournament and table has a completely different dynamic.

Hi, I'm not gay or buddy, I'm a lady. I also write through a translator, I only know Russian. I hope to understand. Good luck, of course, is important. But intuition is more important, I do not know how this word is in English. Flair. Well, feel when you need to fold, even a full house. And, flair it is either there or not, by nature, I think so. Another risk and courage, when they go all-in against you, resist, do not be afraid. The game for a living, $ 2000? I do not believe. For the soul, for pleasure, yes. Even the best players lose a lot, Tom Dwan is one of the best and then loses. The forum cardschat is good, you don’t need that. Are you angry, tilt?:):D

Poker is already in the IMSA, so is a sport like a any other sports. Have lucky?? Have, but its minimal. You can see that professional almost never lost in begginning of tournamennts, and have a lor of other things that show you this.

para mim no poker online, a sorte é 90% e 10% de habilidade. já no poker ao vivo e sua capacidade de jogar é muito maior e você ainda precisa de muita sorte.

Of course luck is more than 10%. Skill is important but in the end your luck that take you to win the final table. In the early tournament, skill makes it like 60 to 70%. But reaching final table, when you just go all in with whatver good cards on your hand, the rest is just luck factor that bring you become number 1.

Luck is a factor but skill will more consistently pay off in the long run.
That said, some people sure are luckier than others!

BasTid gave one of the smartest answers to this old chestnut. You must remember thst poker and any other card game is a game of CHANCE, and whether you come out on top depends upon the cards you are dealt and you can either fold or play. If you play other factors come into play and skill is fairly low on the list. The flop, turn and river have a huge bearing on how you fare, as are your odds and probability of winning at each point of the game.

I think there is a luck factor in poker, but it is not everything with study and preparation. You can increase the% of winnings and depend less on luck. :D

It's the variance in key spots especially in tournament poker whether you double, get
crippled or eliminated. To see if you run deep in the mtts.
