I play both and often at the same time. The folks are friendlier on play tables and much wilder. I’m always working on my real money skills but it’s mostly for fun.
I just get on a table that matches my mood, serious or fun.

There is no similarity whatsoever between playing for play chips and playing for real money.
If you know the combinations and figured out which button to press to fold, further play on the play money will not only bring no benefit, but will also be extremely harmful to the general understanding.

Play money tactics are not like playing real money. Because play money is empty space and real money has its own value.

For me it doesn't matter whether it's about play money or real money or even a freerol, I always give my best as best I can. I don't want to deny that there are certain differences, but the same general rules apply. You have to pay attention to what cards you get and what position you have at the table, etc. The game doesn't change, but the behavior of people towards the game does.

playing with play money is very easy because the emotional doesn't come into play anymore with real money it's very complicated because everyone is looking for the prize money and not just the chips

you can't compare the decisions you make in the virtual game with the real money ones, you can't put the problem like this , two very different things :)))

Play money is for sure different than real money but it is still poker, right? For a lot of people it is less stress to play with play money and it is a good method to try certain things and to stay sharp. Of course every player is different but I always try to play my best poker.

Play money is only useful for a beginner. No use or relevance to real money games. Not at all comparable.

I even played with play money, but after I found real money, I never played with play money again because the time to play with play money ends up being nil to win and receive real money

If you move from play money to real, you have to re-learn the game, the difference is huge.

Play money can be an exercise, but why not to do even this with real money? You can play with the low stakes for beginning or exercise.

Somebody who is a high roller can say "well I don't take the small stakes seriously" as well but EVERY hand is an opportunity for practice. You will have to decide how seriously you want to learn the games you're playing or just sit there and enjoy yourself which there is absolutely nothing wrong with.

And PRACTICE doesn't mean showing up and doing whatever you want, whenever you want. Its about having a strategy, playing disciplined, know who you're playing (i.e. you don't try sophisticated ideas intended for higher levels on playchippers expecting them to work), doing the best you can AND REVIEWING THE RESULTS FOR MISTAKES and questioning the results to improve your game!!

I guarantee that you will get better at anything in life the more active practice you put into something.

I don't see any point in playing poker for virtual money. I am convinced that poker is a game that should be played for real money only. Playing for virtual money is acceptable only if you are a beginner and you just need to learn the basic rules of the game.

I love the play chips because there's no pressure.
I often head over to Poker Stars play chips when I bust out of my tournaments on other sites where we Americans can play for real.
Play chip poker is easier to succeed, there is no question about it.
But its still good competitive poker, at least at the highest levels on Stars where I play.
Its a good bunch of regulars there, and many of us love to chat while we play... you won't get ANY chat on real money sites of course, and I appreciate the friendly aspect of the play chips.
Also... the players who are regulars at the play chips are playing poker for all the right reasons (the love of the game) and none of the wrong ones (playing solely to make money).
Lastly... I credit the play chips for teaching me much of what I know in this game... because the play chips are free and thus, it is very easy to experiment when using them - try out different strategies and see how they perform, etc.
I will never understand why players don't realize all these benefits of play chip poker, I know everybody says "It's just dumb, players go all-in constantly" but this is simply a falsehood. The biggest problem with play chip players is NOT their aggressiveness, it is actually the exact opposite - play chippers are far too passive, they love to limp in preflop and they do not 3-bet with anywhere near a proper frequency.

I've always played poker for money only. I do not understand why play poker on conditional chips, if there are a large number of freerolls where the player does not risk their own money.

Play money is more suitable for playing at home with friends. And here is real money to play against opponents.

these fictitious tournaments are more for training how to analyze your plays to why you don't lose money, in real you have to be more solid and wait for good hands to generate profit!

use play money for training vs the fish

Maybe because you don't see anything of good consequence to play for nothing?

I think play money, given that it's filled with horrible players, it can be useful to broaden your knoweldge on the really really bad players. Cause let's face it, you don't want to only study solid regs so that you find some weaknesses, no, you'd also, MAINLY want to study the bad players so that you can exploit and value bet the hell out of them.

Just my two cents's worth.

Hello to all
Playing for play money is needed only in order to understand the rules of poker, and learning how to play requires investing money.

I'm not surprised at your confusion. These are two different games in terms of technique and strategy.
