Knowing when to end a poker session is one of the most underrated skills in the game. Personally, I try to set clear stop points before I even start playing — both for winning and losing sessions. If I reach a profit goal or hit my loss limit, I stop, no matter how tempting it is to continue. It’s easy to let emotions, adrenaline, or overconfidence take over after a win, just like frustration can cloud judgment after a loss. The key is discipline — recognizing when you’re no longer playing your A-game. Once focus or emotional balance is gone, the smartest move is to log off, analyze the session later, and come back refreshed.

It's very difficult to know when is the right time to retire, but I think setting a maximum amount to play helps a lot.

You're right, I'll try to do that, set limits on both profits and losses because many times that's why I lose everything I've earned because I don't know when to log out.

Es muy difícil saber cuándo es el momento adecuado para retirarse, pero creo que establecer una cantidad máxima para jugar ayuda mucho.
If you're right, it often happens to me that when I'm winning and I lose an amount, I want to go up to higher levels supposedly to recover, haha, the worst stupidity I've ever done.

...the time to stop depends on each person and their experience in the game, but I strongly believe that the time to end the session or take a break of at least 1 hour is when you can no longer think and just keep playing... or especially when you enter TILT and start thinking "I'm going to recover now"... and then you lose more...

I usually stop when I feel my focus or discipline slipping, whether I’m up or down. Setting a profit/loss limit before starting really helps me avoid chasing or overplaying.

Set a milestone for yourself, for example, whether you win or lose, you will only play for 4 hours. Or no matter what, in 1 day you only use $50 to play, if you make a profit, continue playing, if you lose everything, stop. But the most important thing is that you must have discipline for yourself.

You need to stop when you are tired or your tilt! That's it.

Lately I've been thinking about something that doesn't get talked about as much as technical strategy: the time to close the session.
I'm not just talking about inclination or defeats, but also about victories. Sometimes we keep playing for adrenaline, and what used to be a good session ends in disaster. How and when do they decide when it's time to end the day, in any case, a defeat or a victory?
quit when your play declines

Salir cuando tu juego decaiga
It goes down in a matter of seconds, a bad beat ruins everything for me, I don't even want to keep playing, but instead of leaving, I start betting like crazy.

If when I fall into tilt it is that I go crazy and I start betting incredibly crazy things thinking that luck will help me or sometimes I get annoyed with the intention of losing everything but because of the impotence of an incredible bad beat

This is a complicated question because people are different and one formula will not work for everyone.

Ésta es una pregunta complicada porque las personas son diferentes y una fórmula no funcionará para todos.
Yes, you are absolutely right, it is very difficult for the same thing to work for all of us.

It depends on a few factors, but assuming you are there to win money and taking the game more seriously like a business (poker pro or poker reg etc.), then I'd say you should generally stop when the game isn't as profitable as you'd like, or when you are feeling your skill advantage drop below a certain level.

If you are tired, tilted, getting distracted etc. then it's probably time to stop the session.

I usually have a stop plan in place when I’m playing a cash game. It be a time limit or a win/loss limit of some kind. Once in a while I just like to see how long I can last with like $200.00, that’s kinda fun.

Yea it's common for me to tilt all in after a bad beat. or make a egregious bluff

Yes, I understand, although sometimes I don't know impulses or the same greed doesn't let me, I want to continue doubling what I already have. These days they lowered almost half of what I had. I had pocket aces. I shut up, really bad because I had been saying for a while that it was the last one and I got confident with a pair of aces and they tied me with the queens. https://www.casino.us/cardschat/buy-to-let-general-poker-13/when-stop-555563/
That’s a tough spot, pocket aces can feel unbeatable, but variance always finds its way in. It’s a classic case of emotional tilt and overconfidence bias, where previous wins or strong hands influence risk perception. The key is maintaining discipline and bankroll management—knowing when to step back, even with premium hands. Over the long term, consistent decision-making based on probability and position will outperform short-term emotional reactions.

You shouldn't bet too much in the hope of recovering; losing is normal and should be treated the right way.

For me there are days that no matter how good or how much you play, you're not going to win. Also, there are days that even when you don't make the best decisions, you win. So, when I see it's a bad day, I just quit for that day.
