Fear of losing is real

Nobody likes to lose anything… especially money. The risk of playing poker and losing real money is part of the game. gambling is risky… and without risk.. there is no reward :D

Every time you sit on the table you play for money which is serious.
Let me give you free advice, no charge, lifetime guarantee:

If you are afraid to loose money - don't sit in the table.
Every time I seat in the table I make myself think (what is actually true) ;"you already lost the money entering table, now theres nothing more you can loose - just win..
and I go....
( seriously, I think you have a gambling problem becauae you are playing with money you cant afford to loose)

When you are not afraid, you can do marvels. The question is : if you lose the money you are playing with, what is the effect on you? If it is negligable, then you play easier with no tension. But if the money invested affects your life, then you will be very tensed and afraid and this will affect your game big time.
So the best is to play with amounts that are negligible for you

I'm scared to play myself I play the freerolls.. I think I've given more $$$ away than I've actually played myself.. only play ribbybruno's home games on wednesday on acr cause the stakes are small 1.65 buy in.. outside of those few home games on Ribby stream on wednesday i've played a few quarter games for like 50 gtd maybe 100 on acr.. But I did play an $11 boski and finished 40th once, I dunno how to get over my fear but I think after the 30 day course and a couple other books I might dabble in $1 sit and go's and see if i can build up my bank roll to double it's sitting around $150 right now..

When I first started out playing poker I was worried about losing money, although I suppose everyone is when they first start out.

The first time I played was at an organised game at a friends. I spent a while learning how to play poker a few days before. The buy-in was £20. Not a lot, but I was a student at the time and didn't have loads of cash. Through sheer beginners luck (definitely not skill) I managed to place second and won double my buy-in back (winner took the rest of the pot).

As for playing poker online, I knew about freerolls before I started playing, so was never too worried about losing money. Also, being older and working now the cash situation is much better that losing on a few micro stakes game in the long run wouldn't be an issue.

All the money I lost over the years was disposable income, which I already deemed as forsaken as soon as I had it deposited. Thus I was never afraid of losing it to begin with.

Absolutely not. Scared money doesn't make money. It's actually exciting but I'm not a big fan of the sweat. It is incredibly difficult funding a bankroll through the freerolls. So, when I do build up a bankroll, I do worry about not spinning it up and having to grind freerolls incessantly again. But I think this is healthy because it forces me to be disciplined and really think through my actions when I'm playing.

Of course I was, and still am, that's why I play every game as if my life depended on it. That's the whole point isn't it? For me it is. And maybe that's why I keep winning, not a lot, but constantly and when I'll be able to afford bigger buy-ins I will constantly win more I imagine.

I put an immense amount of time and focus into play and study, no matter the stake and of course it's not worth my time at the moment as it's no where near a minimum income but it will be. Of course, a job would be financially the better short-term option but, for me, a job has way more downsides than benefits short and long-term, apart from a wage.

No I didn't worry about playing for money the first time because I had started with play chips then I grabbed a book and actually learned the games while at the play chip tables so I had a very sound understanding of the games I played. I took the playchippers serious and that led me to judge their play and doing silly things like mocking recreational players that just were actually enjoying themselves and me doing that was stupid.

Anyway, whether it was Holdem, Omaha, the Hi/Lo games or anything. I always studied a book and knew the basics. For tournaments, I'd watch and take notes on people(especially the on the regulars) before I even attempted an entry whether online or live. And when I tried a cash game online for the first time I had a sound background, scoped out the table by how many hands folks were playing and how they played.

I'm always thinking about "If I can't spot the fish then I'm the fish" so I'm looking for knowledge so I can spot people's mistakes. Then I used freerolls to build my bankroll and played the micro limits when it was always house money. After playing those folks online then I had the confidence to play bigger stakes live.

Point is, taking things slowly with some preparation can go a long way in getting you ready for anything at the poker tables and probably in life.

There was no fear when playing for real money. It's money I can afford to lose. Understanding this gave me the opportunity to play without fear.

The first time - it was very scary. And now I perceive it as work.

Sort of but not really, right now i'm at a stage where I'm really just enjoying the game and trying to learn so playing with free coins is better than playing with real money

Do not.
I've always been excited about poker from the start and I've never been scared at first.

But I had a few moments early on of losing my bankroll.
But with the experience it didn't bother me anymore.

No, I'm not afraid. But I do it more carefully than in freerolls or playing on conditional chips. This cannot be called fear, rather the word "responsibility" will come up:eek:

Make small bets and play cautiously. Just like investing - only bet amount what you can afford to loose.

Rather, it was excitement, for the first time I started playing a live tournament against experienced players, I was the chip leader but in the end I didn’t get into the prizes))
