No I didn't worry about playing for money the first time because I had started with play chips then I grabbed a book and actually learned the games while at the play chip tables so I had a very sound understanding of the games I played. I took the playchippers serious and that led me to judge their play and doing silly things like mocking recreational players that just were actually enjoying themselves and me doing that was stupid.
Anyway, whether it was Holdem, Omaha, the Hi/Lo games or anything. I always studied a book and knew the basics. For tournaments, I'd watch and take notes on people(especially the on the regulars) before I even attempted an entry whether online or live. And when I tried a cash game online for the first time I had a sound background, scoped out the table by how many
hands folks were playing and how they played.
I'm always thinking about "If I can't spot the fish then I'm the fish" so I'm looking for knowledge so I can spot people's mistakes. Then I used freerolls to build my
bankroll and played the micro limits when it was always house money. After playing those folks online then I had the confidence to play bigger stakes live.
Point is, taking things slowly with some preparation can go a long way in getting you ready for anything at the poker tables and probably in life.
