If you learn something , your other opponents will inevitably learn the same. Therefore, the overall level of the game, although growing, is still leveled. Against you are relentless bots with hm2 and superalgoritmami, pokerroom with its wild RNG and the percentage of bitcoins. Remember the number of rivers and your NATs moving to them. A little math guys and turn your head on. And stop counting the odds of the Bank in relation to the call. Poker does not cost me anything (yet) as I have been on a journey of learning, using play money at the outset, to then joining CardsChat to play an increasing number of free rolls starting a few months ago. So it has only been profitable and I have enjoyed building small bankrolls on a couple of sites. So much so I have felt no need to yet play micro-stakes.

Frankly, I am not sure why anyone would not follow such a path into poker. Admittedly I don't have a gambling background in either my family or close culture so I think this helps with a lack of ego to 'prove' myself. I therefore find it hard to fathom how people get into financial difficulties with their bankroll.

So the only thing I might be wasting is time. However, over the last few years the attraction I have to poker has grown organically with no external influence at all. I know without doubt poker is something I feel a passion for over all other hobbies/pastimes. So I happily spend all the time I can playing poker.

The aspect I love the most is it is never a fait accompli- you can constantly improve your game but you can never master it. That's a wonderful thing. To be interested in something which, if you are so inclined, will only reveal itself to be more complex and demanding the more you play is a fulfilling activity to be engaged in.

So even if you make a deposit and play normal games rather than freerolls, poker does not need to be an expensive hobby. 2NL on PokerStars is still very soft, and the rake only 3,5%. Its beatable with just a minimum of study and practice.

You wont, unless you are one of the top 100 live players in the world, you have no chance of making over a million a year from poker. If you want to work your ass off for over five years studying poker, to reach a point where you have to play poker all day, almost every day 365 days a year for a CHANCE at making between 20-100K, albeit with a 20% chance of you actually LOSEING money in that same year (this is for MTT players), then congrats, cos MTT poker is for you tool! You will have to sacrifice social life, family, other hobbies, health but if its worth it for you then your a total degen and you should def play poker.

Waste of money I dont't Think so cause if you play is because you like it and if you lose money at least you had fun playing ... it might be only if you play just to win money and don't like the game and of course if yo play without discipline good bankroll management and no study you will lose and feel frustrated ... so if you really like poker your question should be like is it possible to live from poker? yes is it easy money? I have mentioned a couple of times I do not (from a non-gambling background) understand issues with bankrolls. It is not meant to be a dismissive comment as I grasp how people can let their emotions get the better of them and their bankrolls. That said, I simply like underlining the idea managing a bankroll and being profitable is not difficult with even a small amount of discipline. I noted early days losing a bankroll frequently multiple times often gets cast in an almost romantic light (whether it's Negreanu or Kenney...everyone's done it!).

The point is any serious poker player needs to manage their bankroll- and eventually the better ones all do. I'd just rather build patiently and skip the 'losing a bankroll' as some sort of inevitable life lesson!

It feels almost rebellious, counter culture, to state I have no intention of ever losing my bankroll.

I absolutely agree. I also have no intention of ever "busting my bankroll". The most, I ever lost, was like half my bankroll. This was due to a 30BI downswing in cash games, partly because I was playing Zoom games, which most likely I was not beating. But then I moved down, stopped playing Zoom and rebuild from there.

This is really the key. People chase after losses, or they feel, they are entitled to play on a certain level. But you really have to move down, when things are not going well. This is much more important than delaying attempts to move up. I have from time to time been fairly aggressive with my bankroll and have taken "shots" with just 20BI for cash games. And this is fine, as soon as you move back down, if the "shot" fail.

No. Poker can be very profitable oelver long term results. Even the best payers in the world playing at the highest buy ins have an roi of +20% meaning on averave over the long term every buy in they do they will make 20% profit e.g. 10k tourney make 2k on avg

If you're losing lots of money that means youre playing poker above your skill level. You're putting your money into places where the other players are better than you are. The $100 buy in that pays out 7,000 to the winner seems great but when you realize that tye field of players consist largely of the best online poker players in the world. You quickly realize that you just wasted $100. You go down to the five and ten dollar by in tournaments and suddenly you see the fish swimming all over the place. That's where you want to be playing. Remember if your in a game and you can't spot the fish that's because your the fish. Don't go swimming in those waters too often
