I guess it would all depend on your perspective and/or your level of expertise associated with the game. Poker of course isn't a waste of money if you are a winning player because you aren't wasting money.

If you're a losing player and you get enjoyment out of it then it might be a waste of money, but it is truly a waste if you are getting a positive response from it?

I think the only way playing poker is a waste of money is if you are losing more than you can bare, as well as not enjoying it in the process. If this is the case then one should either begin to study poker to get better to become a winning player or take a step back and take a break for a while if not permanently.

Depends on your perspective. If you only play to win money, but you always loose money then yes. But i think a lot of people just like the game and they have fun. And most of all hobbys aren't for free. It's better to spend your money on poker games rather than cigarettes, drugs, whatever

Some people waste their money in unhealthy things like drugs, alcoohol, fast foods... The question is how much are you spending? And is this making good or not to you? Poker can be a investment, but as all other investments you should always use a money that you can spend, and MANAGE this money. You can't put all your money in only one investment with low chances of sucess. And as everything in life, even if you thing you lost, you should be always learning something from this situation. I was talking with my brother about this subject. The big thing is; if you treat it like an event..say like going to the movies once a month. Instead play poker, then it is an expense that makes sense.
I was going to deposit 50.00 bucks a month and see how that went. Instead of fighting for scraps in free rolls. No offense intended.
Then black Friday happened and we couldn't play, then it is so hard to deposit now. Never mind.
I do enjoy playing, I also don't spend money. So yeah it is worth it.

It depends on whether you can play and have a little luck. To have winners, some one has to lose. If you constantly lose then it might not be your cup of tea. Maybe invest in the stock market instead. You could learn another game. Maybe gin rummy. You'd be surprised when you find your game it will click.
