Play freerolls... finish ITM consistently and build a bankroll that way.
Worst case is you finish brake even ;)

And if you enjoy poker and spend some money on this hobby then
the money is probably not wasted even if you lose it ....

No - if you study, you train, you play with your mind, and you consider the bankroll manager.

Poker is not a get rich quick scheme. Anybody who is +EV will tell you the trick is to study. So, I do not believe it is a waste of money as long as you are consistently studying and trying to improve.

Of course not, if you are enjoying playing and having a good time then I don't consider it a waste of money. Just like going to the movies or going bowling you have to pay for things that are fun.

I agree that as long as you are continuing to learn and improve that it is not a waste of money

I would prolly guess that the issue is the level of your skill. Good players win, bad players lose, so the money=losing aspect is only applicable to the first..

This question is redundant because other than food clothing shelter and money you spend on things you need to make more money car gas ect everything could be considered a waste but it's definitely a perception situation money vs fun after basic needs are met.

If you know what to play you cannot lose your money. You need to start with freerolls and build a bankroll until you are confident enough to go up. When you improve your game go up again and play with the big boys, if you feel you are a fish there go down. You will know what I mean

It is a waste of money at the moment when you are wasting your time. I mean , If you don not do anything to improve your game and you are losing money of course is a waste of money and time.
If you don not enjoy playing poker and don not control your emotions you are wasting your time.
Now the answer is in your hands buddy!

Poker

In poker, you do not waste money. You buy strong emotions. Relatively inexpensive.

Unlike most other hobbies you can actually end up winning money in poker...
You can win money from darts, pool and chess ( The first two, I'm pretty good at). Those games are relatively easy to develop skill at, you play regularly and you get better. I think poker is a little more complex and volatile, ontop of the practise element, there's a whole lot of study in areas that you might not expect, but are essential for getting good at poker. I'm a rec player, I break even most times but I still enjoy the thinking elements of the game.

I play freerolls, I rarely spend money. I spend a lot of time on freerolls, but I learn to play for real money.
