I am just learning the game, but I play both. They are very different games from what I have so far assimilated.

With cash games, I have learned to try and stick with more of a GTO theory even though I do not fully understand it. What I do understand is that it is important to pay attention to how often other players are calling/raising. What situations do they call/raise in? Were you able to see a flop they went all in with?

In a cash game, I take these factors into consideration preflop. In a cash game, every hand is a brand new hand with the previous having no relevance to the current hand as far as your bankroll is concerned.

In a tournament, you want to WIN, but you want to be profitable. So an ICM model type play is more suited for that as far as I can tell. I like these and can hit ITM in freerolls often. I think I've only done it once or twice with a paid tournament. I've only been playing 6 months.

With cash games, I have lost a ton of money. But that was part of the learning process as far as I am concerned.

For now, I enjoy playing both.

I like to play tournaments and cash games, but when I have more time then I play more tournaments and when I have little time about 1 hour or 2 hours then I play a cash game!

I prefer a tournament because poker can be analyzed and played in another way

Hi.
Mostly, I play only in MTT tournaments. Rarely, but it also happens that I play SNG tournaments. I do not play cash games, because in fact I always lose.
Good luck.

I like playing tournaments when I have a lot of time for this. If there is no time, I can play the cash game.

Personally I’ve specialised almost exclusively in tournaments. I like the fact that there is always potential to win big money and I enjoy the variety of situations which can come up because of factors like ICM and stack depths. I also reckon that tournaments have the potential to be more exciting than cash games because of the chance to make a final table. However, they can take a long time and really the decision of whether you play tournies of cash games just comes down to which format you find more fun.

I play cash games only if I have very little time, like less than an hour. I usually prefer tournaments. Good luck.

Cash is to grind the money to enter the tournament in live games. I prefer live cash games. When it comes to online I don't play cash very often but you can make a quick profit. I like tournaments more online.

Hello.
Cash games are too complicated for me. I have already lost about $ 50 in such games. Now I am trying to play exclusively in freerolls. I think that if over time I will be able to win money in freerolls then I will be able to try playing SNG tournaments.

Honestly man, I feel totally the same. I've stuck to cash games primarily for the first year or so that I've been playing/learning. I just had a gut feeling that cash games are more straight forward and feel like they have less variance. Like it would take far too many buy-ins for a sng or mtt before you realize you've been doing something wrong. I don't like that feeling. I want to learn the game for the cheapest amount possible.

I love tournaments but the time it tkaes to grind MTTs can be tough, especially because of how long these things take.

Cash game is straightforward, Tournaments can have high variance. Grinding cash games is the way to go for building bankrolls...

I like cash to grind. However, I believe its a user preference if you are better at tournaments you should do those. If not stick with what works.

Hi there,

i would recommend small field sit and gos like a 90 man field at either 50c or $1 stakes, try a number of those (say 20) and see how that goes for you..this type of set up is a good lead into longer MTT grinding in tournaments..

Let me know how you get on

Regards

pirateglenn

What do you think about STT? I play mostly 9 man SNGs, but I hear a lot of people advocating for the larger field SNGs. What are your pros for the 90 man vs the 18, 45 or 9 man SNGs?

The best game is that where you win. If you have money to invest, Buy a coaching an save your money.

Starting with a small bankroll and willing to grind what game type do you think is best? I lean cash just because blinds never go up so you don’t have to worry about being blinded out but tournaments also offer really good value what have y’all had success with?

I have always preferred 6 max cash games you can get yourself started with $20nl-$40 with 10-20 buy ins at 2nl.And it doesn't take very long to work through to 10nl.This is assuming you don't have an issue beating the lowest stakes.

Because the blinds do not increase in cash games, you see a lot of players multi-tabling and they just play premium cards or fold. Not a lot of skill there. But a tournament where blinds increase causing you to make moves and focus more, or die. You cannot sit and wait for premium ca:)rds

I started with cash games but switched to MTT. I want to conquer these peaks.
but when the bankroll was small I successfully raised it at small limits.
I think everyone chooses what is more convenient and pleasant for him.
in any kind of poker world game
