Well, I've been playing stud and draw since I was a kid, but I'm ashamed to admit that I learned how to play hold 'em watching Celebrity Poker Show Down on Bravo.

*hides in shame*

I learned to play poker by playing with friends about one year ago. We meet once a week and usually play 4 to 5 hours.

I hope to learn to play. Can anyone teach me?

actually, like Genso said "Well, I've been playing stud and draw since I was a kid" same here. I learned holdem on party poker when it first came out, because hardly anyone was playing the stud I wanted to play. I don't watch poker on TV, and I read 1 book, Doyle's super system. Its ok, taught me what hands had power, but his aggressive style isn't really well suited to online play. I seldom play live, once in a while with friends, who I dominate, so I guess online play does tranfer to live play.

ask a friend to learn poker if you have one, that is the better way to learn poker (i mean to learn not only the rules, but the tips)

My Dad taught me how. He's the one who introduced me to it.

A little while after Moneymaker won and I heard about the poker boom, it dawned on me that there were probably a lot of really bad players out there that I could win money from. I was right about that (pat on back), but thought that I had picked up enough from watching ESPN for three weeks to be able to beat these clowns, and I started off by playing FL ring 0.25/0.50. And out of pure luck like all players will have from time to time, I started out on a roll and thought I knew it all. Then it finally stopped and I realized that my K7o wasn't holding up very much when I made a pair.

So I bought Sklansky and Miller's Small Stakes Hold 'Em and got good at it and started winning. I've since read a pretty good selection of poker books, and also picked up loads of knowledge from online sources.

I learned Hold em by watching the WPT and wsop on TV and then started to give it a shot online this past year (with play money). Lately I've entered some freerolls and finally cashed in a couple - my bankroll is almost a whole dollar ;) Anyway, it became very apparent very quickly that there is a lot more to this game than meets the eye or is presented through good TV editing.

I learned to play by watching, then I decided to get on-line and try a few of the free games. I went out and played in a free offline tourney at the local bowling alley last week and finished 9th of 60 people, so I'm doing ok, but I'd like to get better. I play online at Full Til and PokerStars, but mostly just in the freeroll tourneys.

I was taught the very basics round at a mates house about 2 years ago and after playing what can only be described as "super-loose" for 2 or 3 games I realised I'd have to actually learn how to play :)

I started on pokerroom.com but their server went down one day so I tried out FullTilt and have been there ever since. I have basically been teaching myself with help from poker player magazine and sites like this.

I have mostly been playing for play chips. I have found the shift to real money to be hard as it's a whole different game.

kitchen table

That's right, the good old kitchen table when I was waist-high...:)

Mostly draw and stud; hold-em came just recently, last 4 years. The fad took off like wildfire with Moneypenny, or Moneymaker, whatever his name was.

Those penny-ante family pots were fun.

Peace.....dok

Poker in general I learned how to play years ago by playing with friends for small stakes. Then the WSOP started being televised by ESPN and that is all anyone wanted to play so I figured I had better learn how to play so I don't just give my money away. I finally played in a tournament a few months ago and realized how much I still had to learn and that is how I ended up finding this site.

Mostly online. Read super system 2, but have learned the most from online experience.
