Believe it or not my wife started me playing. I was a four day a week mid-eighties golfer before that. I haven't picked up a club since. I am also about 8k in the black since I started playing 4 years ago.

"I love you honey.."

Where I learned to play poker

I had a macintosh computer. I couldnt afford the new software to make it compatible with pc so cherry casino was the only online place that I could play when I first started. I honed my skills in play money s-n-g's. Then I progressed to real money tourns and live play.

Learning to play

I learned how to play Texas Holdem in a bar. I won a 15 week tournament which got me $800 cash. I was heads up on the final table with 16 chips, and my opponent had 484 chips. Somehow I doubled up 4 times in a row and took the win. I was extatic! I will always play now and forever. Also learned how to play with Phil Hellmuth's book Texas Hold'em.:D

I learned at party poker coz i saw it advertised, then just progressed from there. Also a lot of freerolls at ultimate bet in the early days. I think for people that also want to learn duplicate poker seems a good site for that. u get the same hand as other tables in your seat and then the highest 2 or 3 people advance to next round. Also they are giving people $5 for just joining and after a week ive slowly turned that into $20.

When I was 6 or 7 years old and my family went camping. My dad taught me the basics sitting around a fireplace in a log cabin at Letchworth state park. I remember when he wasn't looking I stacked the deck so he was dealt a royal flush. He smiled when he looked at his hand.

At hunting camp in the mountains of Arizona as a kid a more than a couple of decades ago. I still have a lot to learn and figure at best no one can learn more than 2% of any thing likes this as it is always evolving, changing as time goes on. If that last part doesn't make sense to you then simply look at where the game of Texas Hold 'em was only ten yars ago and compare it with today styles. Then think of the game 20 years ago when the internet was totaly out of reach for the vast bulk of the world and poker sites hadn't even been dreamed of.

Still, nothing beats a game played between freinds for fun by the light of a smoky campfire in the solitude of the woods.... (if ya get too bad of a beat you can always muck the whole deck into the fire and grab another beer)

Waiting for my friend to show up so we could all go out to the club someone suggested a freezeout. So we played a bit, and I lost, so I was talking to my friend afterwards and he said I didn't know how to play. I can't stand not knowing how to do something, so I went out and got every poker book they had at the library, most of which were crap, but ok for someone who still didn't even really know the basics. I played in a couple of play money games until I got the hang of how the cards worked, and then went to the bookstore and got some books my friend recommended like super system and sklansky books, and then I started playing for real money.

I learnt to play about six weeks ago, using the Hold'em or Fold'em tool here as a rough guide, and playing in as many freerolls as I could hunt down :)

best place to try out tactics, then take it to cash tourneys. local casinos have daily tournaments. Anyone tried the pokerpro computer tables? kind of a cross between live and online...
