Live games have a more social atmosphere compared to online games. I noticed that some players are very talkative and others are silent all the time. Do you think conversations reveal too much information, or can they be used as a strategy to confuse opponents? I'm somewhere in the middle, but I'm wondering what most people are doing here.

I only play online, but most players tell the truth when they decide to say something in a stressful situation. And especially when you're playing against thinking opponents, don't talk to them during the hand. More often than not, it will only lead to losing money in the long run.

Playing low limit live event there is going to be a lot of chatting. So it’s extremely important to pay attention to who is saying what. If you are friendly with your neighbors you will find out that they just love sharing information with you. Poker is about getting all that juicy information for free so let them share. They will show their cards to you, tell you what they had, they will tell you almost everything because they are playing for respect of the table and not playing to win the game.
You on the other hand should never show your hand or reveal how you play. Make them pay to see. If they ask what you had, and they will, just say politely you never show, or just lie and say AQ every time. After the 3rd time they will catch on and it’s pretty funny.
Have fun playing live!

I can keep the conversation going, but I don't start it... I prefer to stay silent))) A chatterbox is a treasure trove for spies)) It also works at the poker table))

When we play poker with friends, we usually chat throughout the game.

stay silent, if I speak you'll hear the fear in my voice, even if it's through typing

Usually stay silent. Bit of a stickler for proper grammar, not shortcut general words,so a conversation means you're not concentrating on the game.

I don't pay attention to my opponents' conversations. I don't like to talk during the game and try to play with concentration. Talking can definitely be distracting, but you will only distract those opponents who are communicating with you. And those who are silent are unlikely to be confused :)

Their voice though. Always listen to changes .and silent is loud in other ways.

That's a good rule of thumb you have for most tables I'm sure

A bit chit chat won't do no harm and can even be very helpful sometimes.

The body certainly “speaks.” Those who play in person should be careful not to express euphoric or frustrated emotions during their plays. Opponents try to interpret body language as opportunities for their future pieces, and at some point this could decide the winners and the losers.

Though when starting at a table with new people I'm shy, once I get comfortable I'm a world class Chatty Cathy. :) Over the years: I've had a lot of good conversations, met a lot of nice people, learned a lot of different things, made a few good friends. However, I try to avoid the political conversations. I remember once at Foxwoods I had to bite my lip to keep from getting involved in one about gun control laws. :)

I like to talk as long as I'm not playing my hand, if I'm in my hand I don't like to talk at all, I think I could reveal some information

I only play online, and when it comes to chat, I don't usually talk to people. I prefer to focus on the game. Now, if it were live, I might stay silent too, so as not to disturb others.

I’m too slow typing to chat online, but I might participate in conversation at a live table.
