I'm from Argentina, but I think the country with the most poker players is Brazil. It's inevitable to run into a Brazilian at any tournament.

I play from Hungary. There are certainly not many poker players from us, because in Hungary, poker and casino rooms that do not have a separate Hungarian license are considered prohibited gambling. Thanks to our government and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán! So wherever I play poker, I'm breaking the rules...

I'm Brazilian, and I'll explain a few reasons why there are so many players here.
1. Big national celebrities are influencing more and more people to start playing.
2. There are hundreds of teams in Brazil, all with hundreds of players. Poker has become a huge business in the country.
3. Our currency is weak. We're living in difficult times in our economy. Earning some USD is attractive. It's not difficult to earn 1,000 USD in micro stakes every month. This amount, converted to around 5,500 BRL, is much more than most people earn in a normal job.

I seem to come up against the majority Brazilian and Ukrainian players especially on GG. I have wondered if Brazilians stopped being as good at football because they decided to be good at poker instead. Not sure if their is any correlation but it’s interesting.

Before the Canadian government stepped in to get their tax cut and totally ruined poker sites, I played against a wide variety of players from all over the world...anecdotally, I would say the US, Russia and Brazil were 3 of the most represented nations...now, most sites I get access to are 95% Canadian players...as a result, I probably play less poker than previously.
