Display Preferences: BB or Chips

Definitely need both. I like to display chips and I just calculate BB as it changes in my head. Keeps me in tune with BB changes. Easier to go on tilt if the computer just does everything for you.

I didn't realize the option was available until I watched a coaching seminar of some tournament hands where the display was in BBs. The more I thought about the more I realized I should make use of the option but not just one way or the other, but both.

I use chips early in an mtt when the stacks are small because occasionally some players will put in an over the top raise that looks huge in terms of BBs. I find it easier to deal with the betting. If the blinds are 10-20 and someone bets 300 I can see right away that my I'll be throwing in 20% of my 1500 stack if I call.

Down the road when we are in the middle or late stage and I have a decent stack of chips then I use the BB option. If a player bets 1000 with 200-400 blinds the bet looks quite normal as 2.5 bbs instead of really big with a 1 and 3 zeros. And, of course, like others here have said, it's easier to do calcs.

I prefer in chips. Because the hand history show in chips. Therefore I like unify the counting to avoid confusing me.

I play tournaments. I set it to BB just to be able to use the feature on PS. I switch to chips at the start of the tournament and it stays this way permanently. I am very used to them and I can do accurate enough calculations on the fly. Only switching to BB just for a few secs in order to get the relative stack sizes of many players at the same time or when I am too lazy.

The BB view has some bothersome downsides:

1. Extra BB text next to the stack size
2. The position of the floating point isn't fixed. You can easily mistake a 47.7 BB stack for 4.77 BB, so I can't use the length of the number as a quick cue like with chips.
3. The stack of the sitting out players is still in chips
4. It's easier to tell what the current level of the tournament is just by looking at the blind bets in chips.
5. It's hard to keep track of the stacks of several players when every stack shows a completely different number every time the blinds change.
6. The live tournament statistics (largest, smallest, average stack and the rankings) are in chips.

I prefer BB because it helps me process bet sizings easier. Especially when multi tabling spend way less time on each table.

For cash games, I prefer seeing the monetary amount, as opposed to the number of blinds.
For S&G's or MTT's, I prefer seeing my stack in blinds. It really helps me to stay in the moment and know exactly what I have ahead of time, to help plan my next move when action comes to me (even if I folded and a hand is in progress).

So, for example, say I have 17.6bbs and blinds are about to change, I'll do some quick math and see that my stack is now down to 14bbs. I'll take a look at what I can potentially do when I act again. It just allows me to think 2-3 steps ahead so that I'm not feeling a time crunch.

As for bet sizings, it is MUCH easier to bet 3.6bb instead of 3600. Typos can occur in either situation (bbs or chip sizes).

The last thing about seeing my stack in bbs as opposed to stack size, I don't think about "OMG!!! I only have 1200 chips left, I better do something and FAST". Instead, I'll be thinking "I have 6.3bbs, and while I am short and I need to get a double-up", I won't feel as much a sense of urgency. Because one or two double-ups later and I have a stack that allows me to apply pressure, instead of having it applied to me.

I've noticed beginners like the chips and more experienced players like the bb because the more you learn and play you forget about the $ and realize it's just denominations and your playing strategy knowing how many bb you have.

I Prefer Both

I always did the math in my head for everything poker even online. I never used a HUD but im sure not many amateur players do. I like making my bet sizes in money value but i like guessing on the fly how many bb i have left and im always right. Its hard not to switch between tables that are cascaded without switching between them. I like both and utilize it as much as possible. Although it might spoil your live tells you do it to much.

lol - same thing here too. I leave it on chips, but I sometimes count BBs in my head. I feel like chip display is better for me because BB display would just confuse me too much since I've had it on chip display since like forever

I also like to see my chips, I calculate the BBs mentally

it is always important to keep in mind how many BBs we will still be playing
so knowing when to go all in so as not to allow the chips to diminish enough

When playing online poker, do you prefer to display people’s stack in terms of chips or big blinds?

Personally, I started in the former, but now I play all tournaments in terms of BB because it makes it easier to see odds to make decisions. I also find that it’s less scary to see the number of chips that go into the pot.

I must admit I am of the same mind it was a little odd to begin with but now I prefer to see the BB because it is less daunting and if I get to below 15 BB I then tighten up waiting for a hand to push all-in with
