I don't like answering anyone at the table when I'm playing, especially when the opponent starts writing nonsense and starts offending.

If the player is being sincere and polite, I will try to answer them in a similar fashion, as ignoring them, I would consider myself to be rude.
However if someone was being offensive and rude, I would ignore them, and totally block them until I get to take them out of the game then send them the message "Bye Loser!" or something similar.
I have on occasion managed to do this to some really annoying players who were being rude to everyone on the table and it gave me great satisfaction to take them out of a game.
One I particularly remember, made a comment on my Avatar, which is a picture of a pet I used to have, a pure white Samoyed Dog, and he called it a Puffy Poodle. Because I decided to ignore him, he turned his attention to other players with similar pictures and someone asked what his problem was, So I said "He owns a Pit-Bull" which was what he told me earlier with the remark that his Pit-Bull could tear my dog's throat out.
Every Time I limped into a pot, he then decided to push all-in, calling me a Coward when I folded. so I waited and was dealt A/A in one hand and limped again knowing he would push, which he did, and I called and doubled up, the very next hand I was dealt K/K and did the same thing again, I limped, He shoved, and Boom! Game over for him!
It gave me a great satisfaction, and cheers from the rest of the table.

I hate the talkers at the table, especially if they are talking nonsense. And players who offend other participants, even if they deserve it, I would generally disqualify from the tournament. In case of a repetition of this, I would close access to the site. Can't figure out why poker sites don't track such impudents? Technically, it wouldn't be difficult.

Very rarely. Only if it is the final table of a single table tournament, when the same people play for a long time. And only if these are not offensive comments.

Well we are talking about an online chat at the poker table ,so I guess its worth it up to the point where you get so into it that it may affect your decisions and may cost you money ,than its kind of a problem.

I do because its pretty fun,especially when youve just won a huge pot and the other player is salty.I dont reply when they are clearly just trying to tilt me out.In conclusion,i think having the chat option in online poker is really cool and interesting.

I pretty much don't get involved with the chat unless its a CC game and I know the player. As for rude players I usually ignore them unless I want to have some fun and there is an opening. About a month ago I gave some one a bad beat. He called me a donk player and if not so unlucky he would won. I apologized saying "i am sorry Phil. He mad another comment and I said I was sorry exactly the say way again. He wrote in capitals. MY NAME IS NOT PHIL. I said I am sorry Mr Helmuth. He never said another word but I did get a few LOL's in the chat. Somedays you just need to have fun.
