Play money. You play poker on play money?

I think if you're just starting out and learning about hands and what beats what then it can be useful. Beyond that unless it's a home game for prizes I don't see much point in it. There is very little reason to fold so you'll see all kinds of hands you wouldn't normally see much of reaching showdown.

I started on play money in 888 (or pacific poker as it was then) but then I found freerolls with real money prizes and that was that. I will occasionally use play money now to let off steam but never seriously.

I don't have the time to play poker for play money. I assume I'd do it against real life friends but never online. I don't really see the point of it?

I played today with play money on PokerStars for the first time. You would think it makes no sense but it actually does.. Yes some folks play like Maniacs but I was patient and doubled up on their all in with 94o.. Majority played like it was the final table at some big tournament

I hate play money tourneys. I will never do them again. I will occasionally play freerolls, but try to grind e micros on ACR. I won't make a living but it allows me to play for something. The problem with play money is bluffing. You can't bluff in a play money tourney, or cash game.

I play real money poker not virtual money. I don't like wasting my time. I also play in free tournaments but I also play in buy in tournaments.

After a 10+ year hiatus from holdem, I played several days of play money. Once my head was back in the game, I switched to freerolls. As soon as I get a few more kinks out of my game, I will edge my way into cash games (starting with my fr winnings).

I am trying to do the same thing! It just sucks that there are not many freerolls offered on PokerStars. Which site do you guys think is best for freerolls to ease the transition from playing for play money to real money??

I would say play money sit and go can be useful. I started out that way. I did find it pretty easy to finish in the top 3 so to get a play money payout. In a way it was similar to some freerolls in that the early hands there is usually a few idiots throwing all in. Once you get those players out it would play a bit better. Play money cash tables is just all in and call call call followed by reload. Multi table play money tournaments are a waste of time. Why commit several hours for a fake reward? If real money poker is allowed where you live you would be better spending that time playing freerolls.

I still don't think you will learn anything worthwhile in play money.

Ply money games only for CC homegames , nowhere else . I mean , I was playing some games for play money in the past to see some betlines , chck some decisions , maybe watch the RNG , complete waste of time . The decisions players make there are crazy ,you cannot learn anything . you have to watch real money tables on some tournaments and practise the things you have learned on the real money tables , cahs games or tournaments

Only in home games with friends, where we keep track with standings.

Makes no sense to play olay money online with unknowns, people will just spew randomly to be entertained with seeing more boards and chips flying in the middle.

playing for playmoney can give bad habits to a novice player. My opinion is that even a player needs to learn poker for real money.
