That's interesting. We don't know yet how that will change real life rules and regulations. At least in Canada they consider poker as gambling. However, gambling revenues are not taxed. So if you win an amount at lottery, that is tax free. Same for poker. Any amount you win is not taxed. In the states you can declare it as a business and deduct your buy ins. Although, the law has changed recently and they won't allow you to deduct 100% of your expenses and buy ins. You might have heard a lot of professionals complaining how the poker industry might take a hit.

Good news. I live in Russia. In 2009, poker was recognized as a sport, then a year later, it was banned as gambling. There was even a poker sports federation. Poker is still considered not quite a sport in Russia. People are talking about the Olympics—it'll be cool! It'll be interesting to watch the poker tournament.
