on one hand i consider shaun deeb more credible than the average well-known online player -- on the other hand he once dressed up as a woman in order to play a poker tournament

Yep, likely just more wild speculation but it's fun to dream again.

I suspect that what might have happened is that this deal would allow stars and tilt to re enter the us market when it is legal to do so. No way this deal magically brings back poker in the current legal situation.

Deeb is neither a lawyer nor a businessman and I think he just misspoke.

Makes no sense to me. Unless Stars is having problems with Zoom and wants to just buy Rush.
$750million for 'Rush'?
The reason it makes no sense to me is that the clientele for both sites was/is essentially the same people. We all all had accounts on both sites. A few were mainly loyal to FT, but they probably also had something going at Stars.
Alot of those same people would be playing on both sites.
They are not going to pick up a number of new customers that would justify it on a 'investment' basis.
I disagree. I don't think it's necessarily needed to pick up a number of 'new customers'.. as I'm sure many will be playing on FTP & increase in revenue would be substantial.

Agreed. If they are negotiating both the purchase of FT as well as settlement of civil suits, indictments etc. then obviously they can't discuss it publicly.

Also, if it was complete nonsense they would have quickly killed the rumors IMO. I think things are looking up.

On the other hand, this impies that they havent put their signature on an agreement yet.

Could just be that they're not ready to talk about it yet.

The original tapie deal was for 80 million

stars is paying 750 million

IMO, paying for the right to offer games to U.S. citizens and I don't think Deeb would just say something like that (re-opening in 90 days) w/out being almost certain. Just bc of the wildfire that statement has started on 2+2

If the PS deal is true.. then they could be using it as a jester to the DOJ and US online poker players to show that they are really wanting legal online poker in the US. They could be branded online poker's hero if it works. It's pricey, but it just might work in the long run.

if this is true, online poker is a monopoly, pokerstars have effectively cornered this market. In addition to Rush (which pokerstars had zoom, but don't know how well it compares) this is really the only reason I would think that pokerstars would do this. (I can't really say whether this smart financially, that conversation is way over my head)

But, its probably not open to American players (and definitely not allowed to Washington State players), so allow me my bitterness. Congrats to all you guys getting paid, but my $2.17 is nothing worth screaming about.

The "rumour" is accurate as far as "negotiations" are concerned as verified by EGR magazine. Though by the time the DOJ finish messing around, 888poker say they will be up and running in the US.

Would be nice, but given the slow actions of our government that 90 day statement seems a bit optimistic

Wow.

Too bad we won't be able to play. :(

None of these actions can overturn the UIGEA and I don't see Holder saying "We'll just look the other way" or banks taking the chance.

Makes a lot of sense, actually.

Even if the majority of players had and used accounts on both sites, and they wouldn't be gaining a lot of unique new customers as a result, they'd still be getting a lot more traffic and a lot more rake because those players would only be paying rake to Stars now. If this turns out to be true, they've just swallowed up their biggest competitor - and got themselves off the hook legally in the States.

pretty hopeful. i had $900 on FTP on bf. had busted stars early that week and was doing some zen master sheeeet to not redeposit. picked the wrong site :( hoping this works out. 9 hundo would be pretty sweet right now. know it's a lot less than some people out there, but eh.

anybody know if this means poker will come back sooner?
