PS is actively scanning your computer every second you’re logged in to see what other software you’re running.

“Whoever” is behind the PS firewall knows when you log in to your banking apps, when you make a passport application, when you register your firearms, when you order a prescription, when you seek advice on a mental health app, when you apply for a social security number, etc, etc. And this is just what they publicly acknowledge that they’re monitoring.

Are you saying they are able to do that whenever you're logged to your computer or "only" when you're running the PS software itself?

And where can I read more about their public acknowledgment of the spying?

PS is actively scanning your computer every second you’re logged in to see what other software you’re running. It’s a huge invasion of privacy that we all “agree” to by default because PS won’t let us use their software if we don’t “agree”.

What other software do we acknowledge and authorize to do that? By way of comparison, Google monitors the info that you overly enter into their search box. They monitor your location when you opt to let them. Yes, they also monitor your IP address (as does everybody), but you have the ability to hide that info using a proxy and/or VPN. They monitor the browser that you’re entering that info to but NOT what other software you’re using at the time.

Their argument is that PS is keeping cheating in check. Nobody else seems to have taken that line. There are other ways to monitor for cheating that do not require monitoring anything other than the inputs that I make within the PS application itself (NOT outside that application).

PS says they’re only looking for specific “banned” applications. Do you “know” this to be true? I don’t. All I “know” is that some offshore server tied to gambling with a spotty legal history is actively collecting information from my computer.

Because there are no effective ways of detecting this, other than what PS are doing. And even that is not perfect, since people can run the forbidden software on a different computer while playing. There are pros and cons to this, and at the end of the day, if you are not happy about, how a certain site do things, nobody force you to play there

I only started playing again a few months ago but indeed I am unhappy with the current performance.

I checked out GG indeed, but not because of the recent events but I cannot complete the verification process. They don't tell me what's the problem and I stopped after 3 or so tries.

Same here. I am on back and forth with them for about a week now.
I feel like I just gave them all my data and they are taking mortgage under my name.

Lately on PokerStars, quite often there are technical problems. Previously, this site worked stably, there were almost no problems. Sad, this is one of my favorite sites.

Effective? Is it? And at what cost? No network is totally secure, unhackable. The CC article about the last DDoS attack stated that:

“The site ran 100x smoother back in 2010 when you had a much bigger player base”.

Why? I think PS is in way over their heads. The more they try to do, the more complex they make their software, the more susceptible it becomes to hackers.

The “scanning” issue is almost like a direct challenge to the hacking community. And hackers love a good challenge. It’s like they’re saying - “you’re in my backyard now, let’s play!”

Down again...middle of my game...at first it tols us players were on a break and later was updated to say the tournament was cancelled due to technical reasons. Third time in as many weeks. Gonna have to find a new site. (Certainly not REPLAY...that's why I quit league),

That's pretty poor. The whole point of having Disaster Recovery capability coupled with High Availability is to permit seamless fail-over in the event of a DR incident in a data centre. What are they paying for without getting this level of service? Shame on pokerstars (and their suppliers).
This is not tolerated in most big organisations. We test this **** twice a year.
