Why do people like 888?

It's very confusing to me, I see time and time again though people commenting on how 888 is their favourite site.

To me the rake is high, the software looks dated, the rake back is basically non-existent, and the promos are weak.

What am I missing. is this just a superstition thing lol?

Well for me it were the freerolls at first when my BR was very low.

Now it's also the CC freerolls which are still quite often and also some MTTs are playable. 😅

But I agree with you that there's no decent promo at all or rakeback and also the software is horrible.

So I just keep playing there due to the CC freerolls and my BR already being there and still getting a good result in an MTT every now and then which keeps me there. 😆

Yes the CC freerolls are the only good thing about that Website .

There was this older guy I knew who used to play on PokerStars all the time for the freerolls. He never really won any money but he enjoyed doing them. For people like this I could see the winner winner chicken dinner free roll tickets having value.

But anyways, too your question. I would play on GG if I was a recreational player. If I was hunting freerolls than I guess Pokerstars and 888 would be where I would gravitate towards.

888 though is really bad for cash games. Make no mistake, they are raking you harder than any of the other main competitor sites, and they are giving you by far the least rake back. GG Poker for example caps out at 85% rake back, 888 caps out at between 4-10% according to World Poker Deals.

This site has 888 rated favorably but just remember when it comes to these sites that they make their money through affiliate marketing, so if you sign up for 888 they make money. So there endorsement doesn't actually mean anything outside the fact that they are trying to get paid.

And these guys get paid a lot. They have deals where they get like 10-30% of the players rake for example which could equate to thousands and thousands of dollars just off a single person.

Point is, 888 is a complete rip off for minimum cash games if we compare their rates too the rates of competitors. Rake and rake back might not mean much to the recreational player but it adds up fast. At PLO25 after 10k hands I'm paying $400-500 in rake at 5% with better rake caps than 888. If my rake back is 888's 5%ish I get back like $20-$25, if I go with basically any other site which allows me to get around 50% rake back (or higher) at my stakes making use of their promos and offers, I can get back $200-$250.

It's a big difference.

You're right about everything, it's bad for most modalities, except for tournaments and satellites. It has a good offer of tournaments and soft players. My recommendation of this room is only for MTT, since it is not possible to get good rakeback playing tournaments anyway, so it does not matter, but it is true that for everything else it sucks

888 is a good site for MTTs. The rake is the same as everywhere else, field are relatively soft, and there are often overlays especially in satellites. For cash games and SnGs there is not much reason to play on 888 though.

Yea the fees seem similar but your not getting any of those fees returned to you via rake back, so you end up paying a lot more, probably close to double in tournament fees considering other sites you can get up to 50% and beyond in rake back if your good at taking advantage of the available promos.

This is my favorite site for several years in a row. Always great promotions, a large number of freerolls and regular tournaments are the things that attract me the most. I always easily increase my bankroll playing on this site. I'm completely satisfied with their software, it's reliable and works accordingly, I'm not interested in their ads because they don't affect my bankroll.

I don't play very much on 888Poker but I can see why many micro players would choose to play there often - - the tables there are W.A.F. Comparing the play to other sites & you'll feel like it's a different game completely. (or lost in some time warp where it's 2007)
Check out the 'SNAP' tables & you'll immediately notice that 1/2 the player pool sits with <100bb
For your typical CC member, I could see it being very easy to build up a bankroll from next to nothing and to be able to do it faster on there vs. pretty much anywhere else.

Not just cardchat freerolls but any freerolls actually cause in most of them you could easily entire event but still win some cash - i doubt you can do this as effectively in other rooms though ...

unfortunately it’s very sad at 888, there is no game in sit and go, the only thing is that there is some activity in the blasts, but this is not poker, this is a lottery, they already wrote about the big rake in Cash and it seems to me that the biggest problem with 888 is the withdrawal of funds, any the player will prefer a site with instant money withdrawal, a site that only after 3 working days will send your withdrawal request for consideration, this is complete nonsense, if on Friday he wants to withdraw money, it turns out in a week you will only see them

Yeah, to play cash games it might be not the best room. But! For the new players it is very friendly, because there are a lot of freerolls every day + a very chip Blast format (spin&go) starting from 0.1$.

And I don't sure if you need to choose like "the best of the best" room, probably it's needed to play all avaialbe rooms for the better results.

I think, 50% rakeback is a complete illusion for most players. For me personally regulated sites are not allowed to give me any rake-back at all, because I live in Sweden. And on ACR I am on the lowest reward level, where the rakeback is a low single digit percentage, which of course totally dont matter at all. I have not even earned the first $10 yet. Also in general rakeback is important for cash and SnG players, but its not as important for MTT players, since winning players can easily achieve a dubble digit ROI in MTTs.

So all in all I will maintain, that 888 Poker is a good site for MTTs. I have not played there in 2022, but this is mainly because, I decided to do a challenge on PokerStars, and because I have moved more towards SnGs, where the game selection and action is way better on Stars. But at some point I might start playing MTTs on 888 Poker again. I completely agree, that the cash games on 888 Poker suck though. Very little action, high rake, and you cant even select which tables to play.

Probably for the freerolls as much as anything. Though they used to be better when they would run promising you could win tickets for freerolls, normally including some sort of main event with $50k prize pool. Not seen this type of promo for a while and the cash game traffic is low, so dont play there much anymore and as others have said it is a bit of a rake trap. High rake and no meaningful rakeback.
I find the software reasonable enough.

Note you can table select on the cash games as you dont have to sit at the first seat they try to give you
