I was playing an MTT last night and I made the FT second in chips. With seven players left I had just under 1 million (blinds: 10000/20000/ante 2500) and the short stack had 380K and he pushes from UTG, it folds round to me in the BB and I have AKo - because villain has shown down strong holdings previously, I'm thinking he is shoving a decent ace or pocket pairs, so I see it as a pretty standard call. But, reflecting on it I started having doubts as to whether I should be calling for a third of my stack in this situation, with 2 other big stacks at the table and the rest of the table not much better off than the short stack, would it have been reasonable to fold here considering the pay jumps and the chances that the shorter stacks will bust before me if I just wait? Do I really have to call here?

When I have a large number of chips and the players on my table are worse, having only 2 or 3 with lots of chips, I play aggressively, but this varies from person to person, I prefer that. Good luck!

MTT FT

Well so the fact you get to the final table was already otimo

In entando the difference is to observe the moves of the opponent might fold it was correct since the opponent must be long without action then it really observe this at the final table before one car call

If you fold AK in that spot with what you’re calling next time. Yes, you don’t have to call, but ,, who dares-wins”

In my crazy world

You have arround 50bb
Loosing the hand will leave you at 30bb
winning will give you 70bb

I would say the you not much better of with 70bb vs 50bb
but your much worse with only 30bb vs 50bb

But can you really fold AK against the table small stack?
BIG YES
Your maximum op to 45% win chance against any decent pair
thats not KK or AA. Even TT only gives 42%.

Your on the finale table at play to increase your bankroll.
Any 2 cards are exactly what they is - any 2 cards.
And no 2 cards are worth loosing hundreds or thousands of dollars.

For me FT play is way different than any other stage in the tounement,
its all about the money - climb the ladder ;)

While writing this i had a huuge conflict with myself bout calling or folding :D:D

I think this AK is the only A in which you should not fold

I think the thing about this though is you said he is one of the small stacks. This means he is under pressure to move with more hands and gives you more chance of dominating him. Very good point that you can put pressure on smaller stacks not making calls like this but you are much better calling a small stack with this than a big stack.

Another concern I would have not playing it is if you do not and then keep getting junk hands for a long time and maybe then have to make this call with a worse hand.
