I agree, I dont like rebuys and addons. You get your chips and let them fall where they may...

I never re-buy or add on. I am glad people do. It increases the prize pool, so you can make more money.

As once played freeroll where everything was one prize of several thousand players. There's only time decided to make the addon and almost won.

^ What that guy said. It's a cunning way for the poker sites to get people who wouldn't normally spend anything on poker, to begin (and hopefully continue) spending. A recreational player joins a freeroll, feels like they're playing well but then gets sucked out on by some clueless uber-donk, so the rec. player feels angry at the injustice, sees that it#s only a few cents to buy back in, so pays the rebuy to try and get some pay-back. Or, a player like the OP makes a really good run, only to see their stack become very small compared to all the opponents who pay for the add-on, so they pay for the add-on to, determined that all their previous hard grind doesn't go to waste. Kudos to the OP for NOT falling for it, and not handing over the moolah for the add-on, and congrats to them for still making it past the bubble!

Its just a way for poker sites to lure people into playing by making it look like, its free or very cheap. A bit like Ryan Air selling very cheap tickets but then charging through the roof for any "extras", you might select to purchase, or even for printing your own boarding passes online. "If it sounds to good to be true, its probably not" ;)

I don't see the problem. Info about the tourney is always in the lobby, just don't play. It's not worth investing time in if you can't add on to at least level the field a bit.

Good point well made, but there are exceptions such as the OP who managed to beat the bubble without rebuying or adding on. If you've got the time to spare and fancy the challenge, why not go for it - nothing much to lose from playing freerolls apart from your time, and even if there's very little chance of surviving past the bubble without adding on, hey, it's still fun, which is half the point of playing poker in the first place, right?

They are called freerolls but in my opinion a freeroll means it does not cost anything:):):)

I just found it sad that my hard work (as a beginner) did not pay off at all.

Everyone but me and another guy all tripple bought addon for 30ct making my huge stack of 30k be worthless against their 300k and the freeroll into a not so freeroll.

I changed to a different poker site and I was at the final table for the first time yesteday when I first tried to play a tournament again. (got 5th! I got a bit impatient and called into allin with a very low stack)
and got 10times my buyin as win :D

888 poker does not call this a freeroll. Its called a freeBUY. Also I think, even a beginner can afford to spend 30c on a tournament? So just read, whats printed with small letters, before you sign a contract, and find something more important than this to complain about ;)

Its like a bar selling you a draftbeer for 50c, but charging you 10$, if you want to have it served in a glass
