I generally like to play a little snug when I first sit down to see if I can get a read on my opponents and to judge how they are playing so I have a better idea of what to expect when I get involved in a hand against them. I also don't like playing short handed so I will avoid those games if possible and will most likely leave if the table starts to break. As far as 'does the buy-in amount ever change your strategy', I would say no because I never buy in outside of the limits of my bankroll management philosophy.

First couple of orbits I play tight and just observe. Who opens too wide, who limps a lot, who cannot fold. That information is way more valuable than forcing marginal spots early.

I pay attention to stack sizes and who covers who, since that tells you who can apply pressure and who might be playing cautiously. Bet sizing is another big one, a lot of players give away their hand strength without realizing it.

Once I get a read I start adjusting. If the table is passive I open more and value bet hard. If it is aggressive I tighten up and let people make mistakes. Table selection matters a lot too, if there is no clear weak player I will usually leave.

Hello community 😉
I always play the same regardless of whether it's a cash game or a tournament or SNG. Deciding which hand to play and how to play it is influenced only by the number of players at the table, my position from the dealer, and the number of buyers in me. In general, I prefer to play secretly and play only strong hands ranging from 10J.

first make sure you have enough buy ins because you don't want to play with your last, so you should be comfortable at the table. Next try to observe the players and try to spot the player playing every pot and the player who's just waiting on big hands and try to from a strategy to take advantage of their tendencies. that's my 2 cents.

It's obvious that we all have our own way of playing and we already have a strategy for each situation. Personally, in cash games, I like to see how often my opponent comes to see the flop; that gives me an idea of how they play. One thing I don't like about cash games is that when you're at a full table, suddenly two or three players leave, and you lose information about those opponents. But oh well, that's cash games.

Nope . I don't have a specific strategy when I decide to join a table . I just pick one table and play . That's not a winning strategy for sure , but I don't like on the other hand the table selection strategies , all this fuss for just a game . At the nano or micro stakes it doesn't matter so much . And in zoom lind of cash games it doesn't matter at all cause the table everytime is formed randomly m
. But later st [h| game I might take notes for sb , of hes very tight orose , if he leaves a table when he doesn't win , if he is reh or fun player , if he bluffs a lot . If I already have notes for them I will see if an is very very good dangerous player .

Play tight until you get to know the player's tendencies

My approach to entering a new cash game is all about patience and information first. I start tight and observant, watching how opponents play their tendencies, bet sizing, and overall style before getting heavily involved. Early on, I avoid marginal spots and focus on solid, high-value hands.
Once I get a feel for the table, I begin adjusting targeting weaker players, exploiting predictable patterns, and opening up my range when the situation allows. Position is key, so I prioritize playing more hands in late position where I have more control.
The goal isn’t to win big immediately it’s to understand the game, minimize risk early, and then capitalize when the right opportunities appear.
Yeah patience is what it's all about

Hi:)
The best thing is to call with strong hands and a good position on the table, and also at the lowest cost, even when we raise. This will help us read the opponents’ movement, and how serious or deceptive they are.

I usually start a bit tighter for the first orbit just to get a feel for the table and who’s doing what, then loosen up once I have some reads. It’s also important your position at the table, after you read the players how they play

When I enter a real money game, I play wisely at the beginning. To observe a little bit of the behavior of the other players, and to see who the maniacs at the table are, if there are any

the first thing i do playing live is see how much the house is dropping in rake ! almost every small stakes poker game in a casino where i live is almost unbeatable long term . jumping in and gambling (playing many hands )probably won't have a good outcome !

Simple rule:
Start solid > gather info > adjust fast.

Buy-in and location do matter, but mostly because they change player style, not because they change the strategy itself.

Switching from live cash games to online really changes the dynamic. You go from familiar faces to unknown players, so even small observations matter. Watching tables before jumping in can give you an edge, even if it’s subtle.
I’ve always leaned toward a conservative style except on the button, where things open up a bit Position really is power. And honestly, buy-in plays a role too. The higher it gets, the more disciplined and tighter you naturally become. Poker isn’t just about cards it’s about adapting to the environment.

I usually start more cautiously and use the first few rounds more for observation than for active play.
I watch who plays too wide, who bluffs too often, and who is afraid of big pots. This information is often more valuable than a few early hands.
The buy-in size also matters: if the game is deeper, I try to avoid marginal spots without good reads. In shorter stacks, decisions are simpler and you can play more straightforwardly.
The setting matters too — live games and online games have very different dynamics, so the starting approach changes a bit as well.

If i am at a real casino and am considering a game I try to watch some from the rail to see how the action is going . Just observing a few hands can provide much needed information that may be helpful later . If it's just a slow ,tight ,dull small no limit table with lots of folding , I might get on the list for a limit plo8 game, or another NL table . Wherever i do sit , I will play very cautiously till I get a better picture of my opponents abilities .

Play tighter until I get to know the other players at the table a bit, and try to adapt my game to each player's style. And, of course, avoid shark cages.
