Hey guys,
Quick sanity check here. I’ve been testing a modified Martingale on roulette (multiplying by 2.2 on Black) and made a few bucks so far.
I know the math says it’s -EV and a long streak will eventually wipe you out, but what if you just wait for 8–10 Reds in a row before placing your first bet?
Are people here completely against betting systems, or is there anyone actually running in the green using a strict stop lossstop profit? Curious to hear your thoughts!

I do a progression when I shoot craps, and I win some lose some. What I do is bet one unit on the line w/double odds. If that wins I press my bet by leaving both units on the line w/double odds. If that wins I take down my initial one unit wager and bet three units w/double odds. If that wins I begin the series again by betting one unit w/double odds.

My stop loss is to leave when I've either won or lost 30 units. Playing a $5 table that means +/- $150.

That's not how it works. Each spin/roll is independent, and the result of the last roll has absolutely no impact on the next spin. Each and every spin of roulette has a house edge of around 3% so, for every bet that you place you are losing ~3% of your bet. If you bet $100 on your first bet win or lose you lost $3 in EV. There is no way for you to trick the AV into thinking your losing bet is actually +EV.

So, when you lose and martingale your bet to $220 you've now lost $6.60 in EV on that bet to go along with the $3 you already lost.

After seeing 10 reds in a row, I know it can be hard to picture the next one being red because 11x in a row is a low probability but AFTER the first 10 have already happened the odds of the next one happening is 50% (A little less because of the 0's)

Plus, this would be incredibly boring waiting for 10 B/R in a row before you place your bet.

You can certainly experiment. But you need to understand that you should only risk money you can afford to lose.

This will explain how the Martingale strategy works (In blackjack here, but it's the same system in the other games too).

If you like it, here's the whole series:
