Always Double Down on a Hard 11 – Doubling down on a hard 11 produces positive results on average against a lower dealer upcard, with one exception. If you are playing a multi-deck blackjack game where the rules state that the dealer is on a soft 17, you are better off playing against the dealer's ace than doubling down. However, doubling down on a hard 11 (or 10) is a relatively safer play, as it is impossible to bust when doubling down on that hand.

I stick with book strategy, but best way to give yourself an edge is learning how to count cards... yes casinos frown upon it and some are stricter than others with it. My home town casinos know I can but unless I tried taking them for 100k+ (I have not) they have had no problem with it. Simple running count works quite well and not overly difficult. Just takes alot of focus and practice.

I don't have a strategy. I play depending on my mood and intuition. I know the rules, and all I need for a good result is luck. I doubt that there is a strategy that increases your luck :)

You definitely need to follow the basic strategy when playing blackjack. If you are playing live the dealer will assist you in most casinos.

I dont understand why you wouldnt play by the "book".

You can find a BJ guide in almost every casino.

Agree on playing by the book.

You can find guides online, but I never see them in live casinos. I guess they embrace the ignorance lol.
