He was definitely a gambler, but I don't know if I'd call it being a degenerate one. :) Definitely funny though, and also bright. He was one of those people who are kind of shy and withdrawn so to express themselves they become class clowns and smartalecs. :)

That doesn't sound too expensive. Besides, a visit to Melbourne is really worth it.

Some casinos offer very cheap first class food and others offer promotions I know I go to try my luck and win money I don't think there's any other reason.

I don't want to be repeating what's been said above, but I think it's worth it.
Here are a few reasons to go to a casino without having to "try your luck" in gambling:

Casinos have different classes of restaurants.
They have bars.
They have night clubs.
They have nice stores, just like the ones you find in Malls.
They have TVs all over the place, so you can just sit, relax and watch (Sports mostly).
They have stand up comedy.
They have boxing fights.
And I'm sure I'm missing some other activities available besides gambling.
