I'm so intrigued why this casino game is called "craps"? How did it evolved to become craps?

I could have just searched it using AI, but I'd love to hear the real experience of casino players here.

Being too lazy to go look it up, I'll tell you what I remember, if I recall it correctly:

The game is (or was) called "crapaud" in French. Crapaud means frog or toad.
So, I guess crapaud became craps in English. But I could be wrong ofc.

Also, the reason why the French called it Crapaud (Frog) is because of the players' position. They used to squat and throw dice on the streets. Probably before casinos even appear.

But I also don’t know if the Wikipedia entry is 100% correct! The frog thing seemed plausible since he was crouching while playing. Besides, frogs bring good luck according to some cultures... Okay, let’s use several versions!:ROFLMAO:

I thought Americans in Louisiana couldnt say "crabs" so they called it "craps".

"Toads" makes sense if you think of the posture people adopt while crouching over the dice on the floor (before the fancy tables:ROFLMAO:)
