I'm so intrigued why this casino game is called "craps"? How did it evolved to become craps?

I could have just searched it using AI, but I'd love to hear the real experience of casino players here.

Being too lazy to go look it up, I'll tell you what I remember, if I recall it correctly:

The game is (or was) called "crapaud" in French. Crapaud means frog or toad.
So, I guess crapaud became craps in English. But I could be wrong ofc.

Omg Diva! Where did you find such a thing? Hilarious 😂🤣😂.

If that's an advertisement, it has some creativity in it too I have to say.

Also, the reason why the French called it Crapaud (Frog) is because of the players' position. They used to squat and throw dice on the streets. Probably before casinos even appear.

Damn! My info was completely wrong according to Mrs. Wikipedia. I don't even remember where I got that from.

But I also don’t know if the Wikipedia entry is 100% correct! The frog thing seemed plausible since he was crouching while playing. Besides, frogs bring good luck according to some cultures... Okay, let’s use several versions!🤣

Now I have the urge to dig into this a little more, but the loyaler game is starting, I'll have to do it later.
See you at the tables, best of luck (Frog, frog frog) 🤪😂.

"Toads" makes sense if you think of the posture people adopt while crouching over the dice on the floor (before the fancy tables🤣)

It's because people at the table say crap in unison whenever you roll a seven after your point 😊

I have no idea why this game is called craps. Maybe because of the crappy people who play it? 😅 That would make kind of sense honestly

I never knew the name had such a strange history behind it. The connection to “crapaud” and the old street dice games makes the name a lot more interesting.
