Why are people so drawn to gambling?

Having fun with friends with the easy money feature that they believe... I do not!

Just to add things not already mentioned:
1. I like the cerebral challenge of beating the odds, especially if it means you can make money. Which is why I focus on poker and not chess.
2. Once you start making money (and I'm only just beginning to reach that level, after a 30 year apprenticeship) gambling becomes the most pleasant form of commerce you've ever known, even on the losing days. No annual performance review, no team-building exercises, no health and safety/diversity training, and no regional director who needs smoke blowing up his/her ass once a quarter.
3. Many years ago, a mountaineer was asked why he was so obsessed with climbing a certain mountain. "Because it's there," he replied. I didn't find that particularly profound but for some reason, it finds its way into a lot of 'famous quotation' books. Well, if it's good enough for mountaineers, it's good enough for us. I gamble because it's there.
